Selenium meters: Am I just unlucky?

My first meter was a Sekonic L208 and it tended to overexpose until George fixed it. Then I had to get a selenium one on an emergency (a Sekonic L86), which worked well from the beginning. I liked it so much I got more meters, all Sekonic, all selenium, all Leader 38 type. I've been lucky, I think.

A friend also unloaded on me a small batch of selenium meters. They're all dead, and I don't know if they're really worth fixing... Who knows? I may have them repaired just for the heck of it.

In short, I've been lucky with selenium meters.

I've got an Argus CC that if it hadn't been for the massive light leak around the lens tube, I would have gotten some nice, well exposed pictures. Instead I got flared, well exposed pictures. Gotta fix that seal someday.

But I've had several selinium meters, or cameras with selinium meters, that have worked well, and some that didn't. It really is a crap-shoot.
