My first meter was a Sekonic L208 and it tended to overexpose until George fixed it. Then I had to get a selenium one on an emergency (a Sekonic L86), which worked well from the beginning. I liked it so much I got more meters, all Sekonic, all selenium, all Leader 38 type. I've been lucky, I think.
A friend also unloaded on me a small batch of selenium meters. They're all dead, and I don't know if they're really worth fixing... Who knows? I may have them repaired just for the heck of it.
In short, I've been lucky with selenium meters.
