did the person that made the post below accidentally leave off "smiliies"... to indicate humor or ??? is this an example of bad humor or bad manners or ???

it's also a big sign that one's photography SUCKS!

btw, for me, self-portraits in mirrors or other reflective surfaces are - among other things - just fun !!! :D :) :D

breathe, relax and enjoy. pax et bonum.

happy trails,

I decided on option four: you couldn´t decide on which of your truly great photos you would use as avatar

Guess why.

<--

:p

I chose the option "you couldn´t decide on which of your truly great photos you would use as avatar", but that does not mean that I'm not a nerd. :D

My current avatar was taken of me with my own camera, but usually when there is a frame to burn I do turn the camera to the mirror - nerdy, I know, but sometimes it just has to be done.

Cheers,
Rob

I never like pictures of my self very well no matter who takes it. My Avitar is a shot that I took of myself reflected in a dirty window one day when I was out photographing. I bought the hat at a arts fair about 4 years ago. It's made of leather and has excellent venting for hot weather. I always wear a brimmed hat while out photographing for sun protection.

Over hundreds of years a lot of artists, painters, have painted self portraits and more recently it's common for photographers do the same. I have no particular feeling about it. I don't understand why it has to be labeled one thing or another. - Jim

Used my toaster, not a mirror

Used my toaster, not a mirror

I used the reflection in my toaster, using an f/0.95 lens wide open on my FED2.

After all, isn't a distorted portrait of ME with almost no depth of field better than any other image I could have chosen? ;)

p.s. my toaster is a procter-silex

back to basics?

back to basics?

Wikipaedia (yeh, I know): 'An avatar is a computer user's representation of himself/herself' - are we all nerds then?

No vote from me, because I did it for all of the reasons: I am a serious, beginning, nerdy photographer with no better picture of myself available... :D

I've been beginning for 30 years now... :D:D:D

Well,
It is nothing really, just a thing,
If you can call my Avatar a self-portrait.
Not much showing

Congratulations ... you've just given anyone with their own image in their avatar a choice of sarcasm or an insult.

Richard Jenkinson, who was Pitxu in a previous life, has some of the best self portrait avatars I've seen ... constantly changing and always fascinating!

Yes, he did a great job in that regard. He was unique.

Part of the appeal was that none of them showed him with a camera.
