Self-Timer in Iskra

Hey guys, does anyone know how to work the Iskra self-timer? The manual says "turn on the self-time only with a cocked shutter",

so I cocked the shutter, move the green self-timer lever from position "A" upward (it has resistance, and after zssh zssh zssh like grinding sand it moves), but as soon as I let go the level moving slowly back down, without tripping the shutter.

the lever wont stay on, I wonder am I doing it wrong, should I be push-and-then-move, or pull-and-then-move the green lever? How to I turn it "on" ?

When you got this camera were you told the self timer in fact worked ? Approach using the self timer in these with caution, there's one heck of a train of old ( probably filthy ) components put in motion in the shutter of these great picture taking cameras.

I don't know this particular model but in others that I've had you can adjust the plunger to enable the shutter button to be pushed. Have a look in the throat of the device (the bit that attaches to the shutter button) you may be able to screw the plunger up and down to get the correct travel for you camera.

This is a favorite of mine, it sorta shows the convoluted nature of the shutter mechanism and the possible consequences should loose patience after numerous attempts to rectify the self timer ! And yes I paid a lot for that camera . Peter

The self timer on my Iskra was much the same but with persistence it eventually worked after sitting the camera in the sun for a while .... obviously very gummed up.

Iskras are a nightmare .... they have a superb lens and a very good rangefinder but the rest of the camera can drive you insane. :bang: 😛

How do you set the self-timer? just move it away from "A" label after the shutter is cocked and it should stay in place until shutter is release? Any press-down/pull-up of the green lever required before moving it away from "A"?

Yeah, that was the manual I was reading from, with the line "turn on the self-time only with a cocked shutter", dint help much, of course it is entire possible that myself-time does not work, I just wonder if I miss out some obscure procedure in "turning it on".

I never use the self timer on old cameras. No need to ask me why.

Strange as it may seem, that's pretty well the most important question to ask a seller concerning the condition of the camera. If the selftimer works well then the shutter's drive train ( so to speak ) is probably good to go. Peter
