Sell other lenses for one 50 Summilux?

I guess it depends on whether you like or mind the focus tab & infinity lock on the DR/Rigid.

My DR has neither. Perhaps earlier DRs and Rigids had them, but I had thought that the infinity lock went out with the collapsible and the tabs went on leave until the post-1979 version.

Edited to add/correct: did some image-searching last night and found rigids that did indeed have the infinity lock and tab. Not sure if this was carried forward for all of the rigid production or whether earlier DRs had this, too. (My DR is a very late one, s/n 2357xxx.)

I'm addicted to 50's also. I have a new Nocti and Cron and a vintage Elmar. I love them all, except I could easily sell the Elmar. I love using it and it's near mint but I shoot mostly colour and find it doesn't give the look I'm after. That's not taking into account it's slower speed. It's beautiful in B/W though!

If could have just one, I'd have none of the above and get a Summilux. It's beautiful and not that much bigger than the Summicron.

Here's one from the Cron wide open I shot at a wedding not long ago. Gotta love it but would have liked it even wider to keep the shutter up.

I have the pre-asph. Summilux (E46, focus down to 0.7m) and received a Rigid Summicron recently. Both lenses are in silver and the 50mm Summilux is a really heavy lens compared to the Summicron. I like the handling of the Summilux a lot (steep focus helix and smooth aperture ring) but carrying this lens around for a longer time is not that convenient (MP + 50mm Summilux = about 1kg). The Summicron is a little sharper and delivers more contrast but I need the extra-stop of the Summilux a lot, so both lenses complement one another.

I don’t have a 50mm Summilux, but I’ve never regretted reducing my kit to increase the quality. You can only mount one lens at a time, anyway!

ahh the old 50 summilux, bane of my existence only because I cant afford one, im trying so hard to save for one, will take me years but one of these days...

Thanks for the correction. Though my Rigid is fairly new, it's been many years since I had my DR.

The rigid has the focus tab and infinity lock, the DR does not.

I would totally not part with the Nikkor to get the Lux.

After 30+ years of ownership, the lens has sorta grown on me. 🙂

Oh thanks to mentioned this, Avotius, because I felt completely lost in this discussion. From what has been said in this thread, it seems the only difference between the summicron Rigid/DR and the Summilux is the extra stop (and some ergonomic details). Come on, it can't be only that!
