I am so glad you decided against giving up your film M. I do think R-D1 is a great camera, and could be a nice addition to your line up, but selling the solo film M for a digital camera isn't what I would do if I were in your situation, even if I was in Japan where you can easily fix the R-D1.

As much as I love the R-D1, I think you've made the right choice. Had I had an M, any M. I would not sell it, unless I had a bucket load of them.

yes, the technology is older but it still makes a fine image.

I had an R-D1s for about 1,5 year and was very happy with it, but kept along with it the M4-2, and later an M7 and M2. Don't think I would be happy without a real M: I always wanted to keep at least one film M, I especially like their handling and further found the noise from the R-D1s to loud for making pictures at some occasions.
