Well, how about a counter scam now: You pocket the money and never send the lens ...
Would/could you do that?

Educate your self. Lots of good links and ideas above.
You are about to do business in a field filled with crooks who have been scamming folks for years now.
Outside Nigeria, as has been stated above, a) do not give your info (bank etc) to *anyone*, and b) never send to some *other* address (more so other country) than the confirmed one.
Remember, there is risk for loss when dealing even with *good* people.

One of the guys who took the Magnum Workshop last October was a really nice veterinarian from rural Nigeria. I almost cried when he showed us the photos from his town because the place is clearly very impoverished (one photo featured a dog being roasted on a spit--it's all the family had left to eat.) Nonetheless, this man was one of the most positive, optimistic people I think I have ever met in my life.
So, obviously I wouldn't say that ALL people from Nigeria are disingenuous scammers. Nonetheless, I would pursue the most secure form of payment from this man if you choose to do business.
He must be quite wealthy by Nigerian standards.

No. The 'money' is deposited in your bank account, where it sits for some time until it 'clears'. At some point after that, the bank determines that the the transfer is fraudulent and takes it back out of your account. If you followed the scammer's instructions, you have by this time withdrawn thousands of dollars and wired it to his accomplice, which you will never see again. Now the bank comes after you for it. If you fail to repay, you are arrested for fraud. If you just take the money out and keep it, same thing.
There is never any money. It's a fraud from end-to-end. If you try to scam the scammer, you just get crosswise with your own bank and end up arrested.

Funny that people think everyone in Nigeria is a scammer because in the internet there are the famous "Nigerian scams". OK, the email sounds funny but calm down people... A Counter-scam just because someone lives in Nigeria??
By the way, I have bought stuff several times delivered to different address than my Paypal is registered for, because I spent the summer away. I dont get what is the problem there...
So yes, be careful and use your senses. Ask more information and talk with the guy and make your decisions.

If you think the OP's contact is not a scammer, give it a shot. The world is full of suckers and who need to have their money taken away. Probably do you some good. Go for it.

You can get a university degree in scamming at Lagos U, along with a degree in albino body parts for good mojo.

The Government of Canada anti-fraud website has this great scam example. They call it the Hitman Scam:
Hello,
How are you doing today?, I was paid to assassinate you,but I felt it will be right for me to inform you and hear from you, before carrying out my operations.
I honestly tell you that this contract was given to me by a close business friend of yours, with effect to your reading this e-mail,note that you are not safe.
I will appreciate if you to act very fast to this mail or else I will be forced to carry out my operation.
I have all your informations with me now,as am talking to you. If you feel contacting a security firm or the police will make you safe,I want to also inform you that it will not stop me,it will rather make me to carry out my operations very fast,so stay cool and contact me for negotiations.Note that I sent this email after keeping an eye on You for over ten days,so you can see what I meant by telling you that a security firm can’t save you.Just waiting to hear from you,so I know if I can change my mind under the grounds of negotiation, and I think, after negotiation I will be ready to inform you about who sent me.
I am a member of a well trained group in the middle east,we take part in Suicide bombing and special killings, For top government officials. Note that I am all around you,so make sure you don't do anything more than contacting me,if not you will regret it.
I await your comment on this.

How do you train a suicide bomber? I mean, one go is all they get, unless they really suck at it, and those guys you won't want doing the training.
"Najeeb 'Stumpy' Waheed, over here, will now show you how NOT to pull the pin on your suicide vest. Please take careful notes, we don't want any more instructors."

Give him only a PO box address, get cash in USD up front and take it to the bank to make sure it's not counterfeit before you send him the lens.

If you do it, you are a fool.
If you are claiming to sell lenses here, have joined last January and only have three posts (all in this thread) you are a fool for sure.
Or, more likely, you are one of the scamming crew trying to find out what we would go for.
I might be wrong, but then again, I might be right...
