Hello All,

I'm very excited to announce the upcoming release of my first book of photographs, "UNPOSED," featuring approximately 52 black and white pictures, all taken with Leica M rangefinders.

The book is published by teNeues, which publishes Elliott Erwitt's books, Bruce Weber's, Michel Compte's and Herb Ritts', among others, and is scheduled to be released September 15th in Europe, and October 15th in the USA.

Here is a portion of the foreword, written by Mr. Erwitt:

"Good photographs are tough enough to shoot. Really funny ones are even harder. Good and funny photographs observed in nature not arranged or manipulated but simply observed in real time with amazing consistency, constitute a minor miracle now presented in Mr. Semetko’s book..."

...In my book he is the essential photographer. That is, the one who sees what others could not have seen."

As you can imagine, I am thrilled about the upcoming release. I'd be glad to answer any questions about the publication process or the photographs in the book if any fellow RFFr's are interested. I'm heading to Italy next week to oversee the actual printing.

The book can be pre-ordered here at amazon, and almost all of the pictures appearing in it can be seen at my website: www.craigsemetko.com, in the black and white section.

The book is basically old school street photography, something I think we all appreciate, taken with rangefinders, the cameras we all love.

Absolute best wishes to all, and I hope the links worked!:)

Craig

Craig, congratulations!!

I like your pictures and your take on street photography, and because of that, as a small token of endorsement, I'll am listing your book on my amazon bookstore on my website. Take a look here.

Hey Dan--thanks for looking, and glad you liked "Balloons!":) That was one of those "oh my god is this happening in front of my eyes get it hurry get it hurry..." moments!

And thanks for your request to buy a signed copy---I've had quite a few folks ask about that, and I'm sure we can do it, I just haven't figured out the simplest way to make that happen yet. Please stay in touch and I'll make sure to get it done, though. csemetko@gmail.com

And yes, October is a great release time---the book makes a perfect stocking stuffer--if your stockings are 12 3/4" x 9 3/4"!:)

Thanks!

Craig

Hey Standard Deviant--thanks for the well-wishes! Much appreciated.

And that goes for you too, mfogiel! BTW, I love your 12 favorite rangefinder images! Very nice.

And Dear Will, aka shadowfox--that is extremely gracious of you to add UNPOSED to your bookstore! Thanks so much--and I thoroughly enjoyed your blog. Very informative and helpful. I'm going to buy a Gossen Digisix on your rec for my M3! Thanks!

Thanks again, everyone, and cheers,

Craig

Congratulations! I hope you make the best of your time in the printing plant. Italy has some great printers. I was fortunate enough to be able to supervise the printing of my last book, also b&w, and I was surprised at how many adjustments you can make on press, especially in duotone. You learn a lot about the printing process, I am very glad I had the opportunity. Again, best of luck.

Hey Dan,

Yes, I am doing a book signing in NYC with Elliott Erwitt at the ICP Friday, November 12th, from 6-7:30pm. I will be signing UNPOSED, and Mr. Erwitt will be signing his new book, "Elliott Erwitt's Paris." I am sure he'd sign both as well, as he wrote the foreword to Unposed. Hope to see you and a bunch of RRF'ers there as well!

About the printing process. The hard copies themselves are actually being printed in a little town called Maniago, Italy. I head out Wednesday or Thursday. I'll be sure to take lots of photos of the whole process. It's all new to me too, so we can learn together!

Thanks for your interest,

Craig

Thanks so much, Pablito! Yes, I am sure I will learn a great deal from watching the process in person. I'm really looking forward to it. Everything I hear confirms what you say--Italy does have great printers. Where was your book printed and is it possible to see it online?

Thanks again for the well-wishes,

Craig

Thanks, Gregory! It was a tough choice on what to put on the cover. As this shot is vertical it is not cropped, and it happened to be a perfect fit for the title and my name and Mr. Erwitt's. The shot was taken in Dam Square, Amsterdam.

Cheers,

Craig

And Dear Will, aka shadowfox--that is extremely gracious of you to add UNPOSED to your bookstore! Thanks so much--and I thoroughly enjoyed your blog. Very informative and helpful. I'm going to buy a Gossen Digisix on your rec for my M3! Thanks!

Glad to spread the words, Craig.
I want more people to realize that there's more to photography than just magazine covers :)

Mark--glad you liked the "Smoking Break." It's one of my favorites as well...thanks again, Will, I do appreciate your support! And thanks rodt16s--yes, old school all the way:)

PKR--thanks for looking, and for the kind words. Much appreciated.

I'm in Rome now--heading to Northern Italy tomorrow to watch the printing process...
cheers,
craig
