The M8 and M9 have far more in common in design and usage than the minor technical differences, so a common forum is the sensible thing.

Funny, I started a thread several weeks ago on this very same topic, and I don't believe anyone responded. I would combine the M8 and M9 by just changing the forum name to "Leica M digital."

Maybe a better example would be helpful. Suppose you had a Nikon F4 (which I still own), and wanted information on how to use one of it's features. Which of the following would you rather use:
a) a forum for the Nikon F4, or
b) a forum for all Nikon F cameras
For those who simply come here to read, and enjoy the discussions, one big forum is probably better. For specific answers, despite the similarity of the cameras, two separate forums are better.
There is a third option - create three forums. One could be for M-series cameras, one for the M8, one for the M9, (and later on, one for the M10....). That way no decision is necessary, and people can vote with their fingers. If I were the forum organizer, that's what I would do, and leave it up to the users where they want to post. In a few months, it would all sort itself out. 🙂

I'm sure the M9 won't be Leica's last full-frame DRF therefore I think it would be wise to separate the cameras based on the eFOV of the lenses used on them.
Moreover, many new M9 owners might be first-time DRF users and might not wish to wade through posts that are specific to the issues of the M8 and M8.2 models.

1) Newbies won't know that includes the likes of the M8, 8.2, 9, 10, 11 etc
2) there might be a future Leica DRF not in M mount, like a Micro 4/3 DRF.
