Serenar 85/2 Lens

Recently I sold my collapsible Summicron so that I could get a nice portrait length lens. I saw a decent looking one on ebay and won it for $136.00. That's not too bad in itself.

I got the lens today. The brown leather case is in very nice condition with the embossed Serenar 8.5cm on top and the Canon w/eagle abve the snap are still nice and clear. Inside the top is the chrome finder. Cosmetically it's like new but the optics are foggy. Not too difficult to clean that, though, as I recall.

The lens itself is in very nice condition as well. Both lens caps are present - the front cap is a bit dirty but the rear cap makes up for it: "MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN". There are some faint cleaning marks on the front element but nothing that's going to have any real impact. Everything turns smoothly and it seems to work just fine on my new-to-me Bessa R. The baseline may give me guff at f2, but no worse than if I still had my CL.

I thought that was it - then I looked down into the case and saw that the original Canon 50mm Diameter Series VII press on hood and a cap for it were at the bottom of the case and in very nice condition as well.

I have to say that I think that I came out ok on this deal 😀 Now just to have the time to give it a proper workout :bang:

Getting the hood was a very nice present indeed. It's a very tight fit in the vintage MIOJ case, I had to buy a slightly later case to fit my hood in at all!

Mine is also MIOJ, s/n 51322. I think $149 for lens and case, and another $25 for the hood.

The reverse caps for the hoods are particularly hard to find, either slip-on or threaded.

I have a nice uncoated Elmar as well, but 1) I wanted a coated lens for the difference in look (and being a Sonnar is a nice plus too) and 2) I've decided to concentrate on the Serenar/Chrome Canon lenses for now. Lots of high bang/buck performers there 😀

I don't think the seller realized the hood or finder were there so both were nice surprises for me.

I've used the Nikkor 8.5cm/2 in LTM on the R2 without any problems. Got some great shots with it.

You should not have an issue. The base is a good bit more than the CL.

Nice grab indeed. I appreciate the comment about the finder because I have a cloudy 35mm Canon finder. It is usable, but I never thought that it may be easily cleaned. I will have to take a look now that I have been prompted.
