Where is usually serial number located on Leica lenses?

The position varies. Many can be seen clearly around the front element. On the 50mm 3.5 Elmar, it is normally engraved in VERY small numerals on the bronze ring that surrounds the front element. You will require a magnifier to read it. I'm not familiar with the latest models, so I can't comment on them.

On some of the newer lenses that have a large front element, the serial nr. is engraved on the barrel, for example the 90 APO Summicron ASPH has the number on the front of the barrel just below the slide-out lens hood.
