Other than my venerable M8 , ' Contaxed ' to J3 and my new Fuji X-Pro1 / 27mm , my preferred DSLRs , over a Sony A35 , are a pair of Sony A290 / A390 , hardly considered serious cameras . Outdated on launch as a stripped out A350 .

I still love the colour rendition , from the CCD sensor , the handling suits me perfectly with my Minolta 35-80 adding a little heft , 14mp is more than adequate and I have no need for video or all the modern conveniences . Having said that , I would be quite content with a new £6000 car with wind up windows and space for a radio - [ Dacia Sandero in Uk ] - though it will be a new VW Beetle in silver and beige interior .
Neither do I 'need' another lens for the perfectly balanced X-Pro 1 with pancake nom 4!mm.

Should I be concerned ?

Sometimes we're attracted to idealistic stuff. 42MP FF, Others that can see under Moonlight, Noritsu 4800p MF Scans... and at the end it's just about enjoying and not needing that much.
Simple things are the best. I am from the mediterranean and a bit of oil on bread makes a fantastic dish... Do we really need a hundred ingredients to enjoy food? No. So can be photography.

I don't know if I "settled for less" as I have a couple of pretty good cameras but my favorite is a 12 year old Epson R-D1. I'm more pleased with the shots I get with it on average than any of the others.

If you are happy, then you are happy. Nothing to be concerned about. It's the economic considerations of the camera market that drives them to make bigger and better cameras every year or so. If you're happy, then be happy.

If I didn't need faster and quieter operation, I could happily shoot with the 2011 Ricoh GXR aps-c modules for almost everything. The 2014 Panasonic GM1 is tiny, silent, surprisingly satisfying to shoot, and I don't need much more image quality for general daily photography. I used to go out with the Leica M9 and a few lenses every day; now it is just a Panasonic GM1 and LX7 or Ricoh GR. Much lighter, far less expensive, and more quiet and easy to use. And the option of M9 quality is still available if necessary.
