However, even though I did not need it, I decided to buy a Leica M10 digital rangefinder because I wanted it. I will never recover my financial expenditures for the Lexus and the Leica, but I am happy with my decisions.

I'm contemplating selling Grandma's old M3 so I can get a new Sony A1.
Do I need help?
Been shooting digital since my Coolpix 995 days. Have shot more digital than film.

I am motivated, compelled, to make photographs. I enjoy making them with whatever equipment whim, caprice, or necessity deems apropos at the moment I want to make them. Often, it seems the harder the process from vision to finished photograph is, the more fun it is. Other times, my vision is expanded by the ease of using the particular equipment.

I never "leave" some medium or format, to "go to" some other. I think about what I'm trying to achieve and look for whatever might get me there, or I just see something that looks like it might have some interesting qualities that I can utilize and try it out.

Yes, there are positives about digital that I rarely hear mentioned among the criticisms. Before the advent of digital, when I was shooting 35mm, we used to try our best to minimize grain in order to achieve the look of larger format. 35mm digital can have much of the look of 2 1/4" or larger negatives if handled well, particularly with new sensors that have higher iso capabilities.

Plus I really appreciate the ability to check and fine tune things iike exposure, lighting and composition in the field, something that was impractical if not impossible with film.

And if you can get your digital curves to resemble the response of whatever film type you prefer, the end results of the two processes can look remarkably similar in many instances.

I need a camera that can be used in my helmet Helen, in my case it's often the M6 and 50 Sonnar. And it needs to be compact and robust to travel on the motorbike with me, so that prevents taking too much gear.
