Seventy five year old photographs ... Roll #8 (India)

Keith,

Absolute wonderful to look at. Along with the story and other bits of information this is a treasure capsule from days gone by. Well done.

I second oftheherd's motion: suggest a blurb book to the relatives! I'll buy it!

Great shots and a job well done, Keith!

I loved very much reading each thread you started: an intriguing story with lots of fascinating shots from the past!
Thanks again sharing (and thanks to Bettina's family for allowing you to post the photos).
Ciao

May I suggest this link...

Phyllis McDuff

It appears that her book - 'A Story Dreamt Long Ago' - is due to be republished soon. A Blurb with these photos and narrative would make a great complement.

Keith... thanks so much for taking the time to share these photos with us. The simplicity and power of the photos is very effective and I share the sentiment with you of photography with a simple camera and lens. Although we must remember that a Leica was state of the art in the 1930's.

Thanks!

It also strikes me that with all of the fairly negative threads on RFF recently this series is, ans has been, totally refreshing and fascinating. It's kind of what "the best of RFF" can be, people with a common interest sharing some really unique info/stories/pics.

Anyway, another great job Keith.

Fantastic series and thanks for the show and tell.
Love the prose, love the history, love the images.
This is how books are born. ;)

Glad everyone's enjoying the pics and the journey ... the supportive comments are very much appreciated because sometimes I can feel myself flagging a little! :p

This woman really was a mover ... a lot of shots are taken from moving cars, trains, boats, horses etc. So many shots have a real sense of motion to them.

Another interesting little snippet:

In around 1933 Hedi Lamarr (Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler) starred in a ground breaking Hollywood movie where she got her kit off ... caused quite a sensation apparently because hollywood hadn't done this sort of thing previously. Bettina was actively involved in the movie and was one of the financial backers and spent time in Hollywood with Lamarr who was also of Jewish decent.

Fascinating! Of course, I have to wonder out loud whether the children and grandchildren of today's digital shooters will be able to resurrect those old digital files seventy five years from now?

Only if we transfer them to film and hide them in a box somewhere it seems! :p

edit ... I was just thinking to myself ... It's a pity Al Kaplan's not around to enjoy these!

I was showing these photos to a friend yesterday, and he asked me the exact same question.

Fantastic work. You really deserve a loud applause for doing such a wonderful job. Thank you this is all very fascinating!
