Hi
I'm new to the forum and I'm just wondering if there's anyone else on here living in Shanghai?
I've joined a few photo clubs in Shanghai but they never amount to much (seem to dwindle quickly), would be interesting to know who else is out here (I'm a Brit by the way)

Hello !

Hello !

Hey Shanghai Brit!

Are you into digital or film? What are you using? Is there available black and white film to purchase in the the city of zillions? How safe is the city?

hi
i'm mainly using film these days, my d50 doesn't really see the light of day at the moment.
I mainly shoot with TLRs, originally picked up a seagull very cheaply and then moved onto a yashica 124g. I recently picked up a yashica electro 35GSN at a junk stall on a recent business trip to hong kong, that got me interested in rangefinders. currently waiting for a kiev 4am and helios 103 lens from FSU.
as for shanghai, it's a great place, a wide variety of film is readily available as well as high street processing (120 as well)

I hope to travel to Shanghai in the next year from Korea and I'll let you know. Maybe we can get together for some coffee and a brief photo tour. If you come to Seoul, give me a heads-up.

Is the government allowing people to form clubs? I recall authorities broke up and imprisoned several members of a book club, although they had cleared it previously with local officials.

I found Shanghai to be an extremely photographic and interesting city and safe. Most cities in China are safe ... or at least were safe a couple of years ago.

Don't shoot near consular offices.

hi bill, actually I get to Seoul quite frequently, I'm there in two weeks actually but it's only a brief visit and a tight schedule. I'll give you a nod next time I'm out that way with some spare time.
Mike, books??? were they crazy? no wonder they were arrested!
I've not heard of anyone having problems with clubs etc in Shanghai, but maybe the expats have a little more freedom. Honestly speaking I can't think of anything in my lifestyle which is restricted by living in Shanghai. Shooting near consular offices, doesn't the same apply in any country really?
The only serious difficulty I have with taking photographs in China is having a girlfriend, with travelling on business most weeks I only see her at the weekends and if I even look at my cameras at the weekend I'm asking for trouble!

I'm free every weekend after 5:30PM. give me a hollar. wrs111445@yahoo.com and 010-4282-5150 any weekday before 3:00PM. I'll take you on a tour of the used camera shops--there are many in three main areas. Bring $$$$.
