Indeed, the canon lens is great too.

Now I'm saving up for a wider lens, still not sure which one. I checked some 21 CV in my local shop but I'm still not ready to pay 400euros.

I was very disappointed with the results I got with this image when I used lightroom on the raw file
the tones were all wrong and the contrast was way to high and it had no luminance. So I extracted this jpeg from the raw file (it is the one stored in the raw file to use as the display image on the cameras rear screen and it is shown here full size at 640x424)
I now realize that I was using the yellow filter in the B&W settings and these are not conveyed to lightroom's rendition of the raw file... I think I'll be shooting raw+jpeg from now on, I can't really justify turning off raw as I like the option to revert to colour now and then (I know I could use Epson PhotoRaw but it is such a slow interface)

Nice indeed. I shoot RAW+JPEG/B+W. When converting the RAW to B+W in Aperture I don't just desaturate the image, I use the Monochrome conversion tool and adjust the colour channels to my satisfaction. There are even presets for simulating different filters if you like. I suspect Lightroom has a similar tool.

Keith - the R-D1 JPGs are indeed exceptional!
I had a loong and hard fight, until I somewhat liked the BW processing of EPSON RAW files.

I strongly recommend you, to have a good test of the SilverEFX Pro Demo - it is indeed amazing, what things it does with RAW files!
You can also play along with filter effects - a great piece of software!

I'm being rather strict about Free-time for the past few years. I was getting some stress-related physical problems. So "Free time is 'Me' time".

Alright, more from the Louwman museum:

I'm annoyed with Photoshop. I couldn't rotated this image to level it out accurately. 🙁

Is it at all possible to adjust the skewed VF lines yourself on the R-D1?

Nice shot. Very well balanced exposure.

My framelines are wonky too. I try to live with it. As I remember its a top off job, look at Rich's sticky. His site has a page on it.

Fred, the sentry, has the physique of a tall doughboy from the era, he actually wears 100% original gear. I have to make do with a reproduction uniform.
Only problem with being in a small group (just 3 of us doing WW1 US) is that you can't leave the display for very long to take photographs. I think I got about 12 of the entire weekend and they're all of the Doughboys and of the American Civil War trench.

Great shot Porktaco, nice colors.
I like yours too, Johnmcd, and yours Andreas.

I've not really had time to work through the photos from a bachelor party (including some filming, highland games and BBQs). So I'm stuck posting pictures from the Road to Victory tour last month.. Sorry 😉

Press Jeep, near Kvilda during the convoy run up to Strazny

Love it! ~
the Jeep's just missing a European "wire cutter" some Jeep restorers add them for realisim, for in 1945 you wouldnlt be caught dead without one....

Wish I could have an old Jeep to run around in, just like Col. George Stevens film crew had, racing towards Berchtesgaden.....Maybe someday I'll do the Reenactment theme and bring one or two IIIC K's with me overseas 🙂

Speaking of backup cameras, I've been considering a RD-1 as a backup camera to my M8 which is now with Leica NJ gettting it's problems sorted out...........wondering really what is the best route in buying one of these now, while I guess they are all used gear by now, a "new" one would be impossible to find or well, very expensive!

I haven't posted in this thread yet, so here goes:

The lens is probably 50mm Summicron, but I'm not entirely sure about it.
