Sharpest Zeiss telephoto for Contax IIa

What was the sharpest post-war telephoto lens made by Zeiss for the IIa/IIIa rangefinders?

How would it compare to the Nikkor 10.5cm 2.5 'C' lens?


FWIW I bought the 25mm SC Voigtlander lens from Camerquest for my IIa and it is one sweet lens! Get them while you can as they are discontinued!

I only have two one is a J-9 85mm f2.0 and the other is an uncoated Zeiss Sonnar 135mm f4.0. They are both better lenses than I am a photographer.

I can't compare to the Nikon.

The 135/4.0 Zeiss Sonnar is superb. And I happen to have one available that I purchased from Henry Scherer (he fully serviced it). Also I have a nice Zeiss 85/135 torpedo finder.

The 85/2 Sonnar isn't too shabby either. Sorry no comparison to the Nikon, but with the PW Zeiss sharpness is not an issue....IMHO

I have both the post war Carl Zeiss 135/4 Sonnar and the 85/2 Sonnar. Both are outstanding lenses. I also really like the Nikon 85/2 made for the Contax. In terms of performance, I can see no difference between the CZ and Nikon- both are very sharp and moderately contrasty. The Nikon has the advantage of being about 1 cm shorter than the CZ.
