Not sure how I managed to miss focus on these stationary subjects, when I routinely nail it chasing my very active young boys around will all manner of MF gear...

I just spent a three weeks in new york city photographing. A lot of my shots fall just short of total sharpness. I shoot with an external viewfinder for my 28, so when I'm operating around f2.8 or f4, a little bit of "fuzz" is to be expected.
