Personally I like the Double XX moniker, but Eastman 5222 works for me too (though I have to add that tag to some of my previous postings.)
Being as it is - most people who are interested in XX probably comes from Tri X/HP5 background and the designation XX would work too.
Thanks for setting up the Eastman 5222 site or XX site. It is a good film and the more people we get switched to bl/w - the more likely it is that the manufacturers will recognize the demand and keep making stuff.
As Al said. there used to be a Super Double XX in the past. It was very much the 35mm equivalent to the 120 Verichrome Pan - amazin latitude and could be developed in just about anything. I suspect that these two films were made for the low-end cameras with only a couple of shutterspeeds and either fixed or limited aperture! Something like the old Box Brownie and a variety of the cheap 50's and 60's non Rf's.

Tom-
Does the label on a fresh can have any sort of 5222/Double-X logo, text?
We need an icon for the Flickr group, and maybe we could just use a really close-up shot of the label on a fresh can. (All my 5222 is recans).
Would it be too cumbersome so use the complete tag
"Eastman Double-X 5222" - thus removing all ambuguity.

Nokton48 - thats the scanner I have- bought it used for less than $100- so keep your eyes open.
As for joining the Flickr group- I think there is a very small link to the upper right when you are at the group main page- I'm very uncertain about that. What is your Flickr user name- I can try to send you an invite.

My cans are recent and they have "5222" on the yellow tape around the can and "Kodak Double X 5222" on the label of the can. I can borrow Tuulikki's GRD and shot a"digipix" of the lid and tape.
My only problem is that "Eastman" is a lesser known name than Kodak. I think by the time people get this far into it, either Double X or Double XX will work and if we want we can add a 2nd tag "Eastman 5222". If you say Double XX people react to it - if you say 5222, they ask for the area code to go with it!

dpetrzelka, my Flikr user name is "Nokton48".
Now that the Minolta DimageIII is on my radar screen, it shouldn't be too long before I find one. I'm good at that. I've also got several 5222 film cans in perfect shape (They look kind of "Hollywood" cool, I think we should shoot the whole can). I'll see what I can get tonight with my Sony Cyber-Shot.

My "new" scanner is a Konica/Minolta Scan Dual IV, which is newer than that one, but still three years old and discontinued. At 3200dpi, it's a big step up from my old Epson 2450 flat bed as far as 35mm scanning is concerned. Mine was a new-in-box refurb that came along with a bunch of darkroom/photo gear I was given after a good friend passed last year. Seems to be a good piece of hardware, but the power supply was DOA and I've got it hooked up to one of the lab supplies from my electronics bench right now. A lot of the comments I've read online seem to indicate these scanners have some spotty reliability records, but if you buy a used unit (and it's been in use all this time) it may be one of the "good" ones.
I've been using Vuescan (on my Mac) with the Scan Dual IV and I'm happy with it. I can't comment to the quality of the OEM Konica/Minolta/Sony/whatever drivers, which probably haven't been updated since the scanners were discontinued.

Well, I've got my account on flickr and added a couple of pictures from today taken with Double XX and some interesting cameras, a Kiev 2a (1954) and a Yashica GSN. I also had my trusty M2 along.
I developed the XX at 250 in a two bath Developer I made TD-201, Bath A for 3 minutes and Bath B for 3 minutes at 72 degrees.
The negs are really nice and scanned well.
How do I link the flickr page so it can be listed?
Leo
Also how do I link to the Eastman XX group?
Help

Leo-
That TD-201 appears to have worked very well. The fishing nets have great shadow detail when looking at the larger size of the photo.
Is it a very complex recipe?
Once I feel that we have a better consensus on the name for Eastman 5222, I will register a short-cut web address with Flickr to make linking to the group much easier.
Right now the link is

Dan,
Thanks, I have added the two pictures to the Eastman 5222 group.
How do I list my group or page, so I can add it to my own listings?
I think I have it listed now, in my signature.
Thanks

Leo,
Would you mind posting the formula here for the TD-201? I might like to try it, myself. Thanks!
All,
I think I got a usuable digital image of an entire Eastman 5222 can (in good condition). This evening I'll try to get it up on here, maybe it's usuable on Flickr? Time will tell.

Both XX and Double XX "sound" good. but 5222 is very specific.
A question for those of you using the ADOX MQ, what's the best way to measure out quantities from bulk chemicals?
my darkroom is getting closer to completion!

The developer TD-201 2 bath is from the book :
The Film Developing Cookbook By Stephen G. Anchell, Bill Troop
http://books.google.com/books?id=lz...ig=aFjwfTZaZKJPzy7gT6Sjvqp-xzE&hl=en#PPT98,M1
The listing is on Page 84 of the excerpts from the book.
It talks about the chemicals needed and times.
If this doesn't work I can copy the data and post.
It would be better for each of us to buy the book "The Film Developing Cookbook
By Stephen G. Anchell, Bill Troop" to help support their efforts. I have it and it is outstanding.

As far as the easiest way to put together The Adox formula here is how I do it.
Along time ago I went from a balance scale to using Table spoons and teaspoons. I feel for BW developer there is some wiggle room on the amount of chemicals used. Many disagree but it works for me.
DEVELOPER: Each measurement is a level TBL or tsp unless noted
Metol 2 g or 1/4 tsp + (+= a little heaped - means slightly less than level)
Sodium Sulfite 80 g or 3 TBL and 1/2 TBL -
Hydroquinone 4 g or 1/2 TBL -
Borax 4 g or 1 tsp -
Potassium Bromide 0.5 g or 1/8 tsp -
Water to 1 liter
Replenisher:
Metol 3g or 1 tsp-
Sodium Sulfite 80g or 3 TBL and 1/2 TBL -
Hydroquinone 5 g or 1/2 TBL +
Borax 18 g or 1 TBL and 1/2 tsp +
Water to 1 liter
20 ml of replenisher for each roll developed.
Years ago I got a chart with weight equivalents to spoon measurements. Each chemical is different because of weight and volume.
This is the way I mix the developer and it works for me.

I bought an old darkroom chemical balance, complete with a set of weights, from 1 gram to 50 grams. It was not expensive at all (20 Bucks) and is marked PELOUZE MFG CO EVANSTON ILL USA. Highly recommended for precision measuring.
Leo,
Thanks!! You know, I just got the book, I didn't realize it was in there! Yes, everybody in the group should definately get a copy, it's worth -every- penny. Here is TD-201 for anybody (here) interested:
Solution A
Metol.................... 5g
Sodium Sulphite.... 100g
Water to Make ...... 1-Litre
Solution B
Borax .................... 2g
Sodium Metaborate.. 5g
Sodium Sulphite...... 6g
Sodium Sulfate ....... 40g
Water to Make......... 1-Litre
I think I have everything in-house right now except the Sodium Sulfate. Interestingly it looks like a split-developer version of Microdol-X. That would show great promise with retro XX

I had everything except the Sodium Sulfate also, I got mine from Photography Formulary, in only a couple days. Montana to Washington State, it was very quick.
I also got some Harveys 777 Developer which I might try in the future.
