Shooting Eastman (Double-X) 5222 in the Leica

I don't know if it is the 777 or the Armor All, but lovely tones nonetheless. I've been curious about this developer, but will probably never get around to trying it.

Do you have a full shot of the Morgan? We don't see many around here.

Mark, I did not have a full view of the flat rad Morgan scanned in. Have to ;ooh for it.
In the meantime, TriX in the Harvey 777 (9 min). Worked very well and that was the look I was aiming for with the XX. needs more testing obviously.

Very nice Tom. Another experiment I need to try.

XX in FX-55

XX in FX-55

I tried FX-55 with XX. The results are impressive.

I was a bit skeptical because I noticed that developers with ascorbic acid increase the visibility of grain of XX, but FX-55 is definitively better than D-96A or Xtol on this matter. Grain is fine and tight, mid-tones are superbs and definition is much better than anything else I tried with XX.
FX-55 is said to increase speed from 1/3 to 1 stop, but I did'nt saw that. According to my tests, the speed is between 250 and 320 (daylight).
I'm sorry but I have only taken test strips whose size is not compatible with the site (500x500 maximum).

For people in the Netherlands, maybe good news that our Fotohuis is importing Bergger products since next month so the OrWo Filmotec N74+ can be ready bought in a very good Ilford/Harman 135-36 assy for Eur. 4,25 incl. Dutch 21% VAT under Bergger BRF400 plus film 135-36.
So the expensive Kodak XX in Holland is not necessary anymore .... :D

Fred DeVan's excellent writeup on Harvey 777, including some formulas:

http://unblinkingeye.com/Articles/Harvey/harvey.html

TomA, how did you obtain your 777 ? I see Harvey's Defender 777 is available in kit form through Photographer's Formulary.

My Harvey 777 was languishing in my dark room for a long time. Can't really remember where I got it from. Could be a left over package from when I used it with 4x5 decades ago! Dark rooms have these black corners and deep shelves where thing congregate and suddenly you find things you can't remember you had!

FYI, Bluegrass Packaging is making a new batch of Harvey's 777.
This is supposed to be the original formula, whereas the version sold by the Formulary is only 'close'.

Indeed, dark corners in the dark room. I just found back a small 125ml bottle of original Agfa Rodinal of about 15-20 years ago.

The Windisch W665 formula has been published in several books from Hans Windisch and can be also found back in the Darkroom Cook Book.

My darkroom also has dark corners and deep shelves where things congregate. Thinking about it, so does my studio :D

That Fomapan 200 also looks really good in the Harvey's-type. And TomA, so does the XX! I recently have gotten 300 sheets of 9x12cm Fomapan 200, so I think I will be trying this developer with it. Looks promising.

Maybe one of our North American members can help you out?
If not - and you really want it - there are services, which will provide a US-address and from there it will be sent to you for a few $ extra.
I'm considering using one of them, but I mixed up a gallon of Diafine a week before the announcement ... decisions, decisions.

Bluegrass are not shipping the 777 overseas

For Europe you can order Windisch W665. Another Ultra Fine Grain type developer from Hans Windisch which is using Ortho- Phenylene Diamine instead of the more poisoning Para- Phenylene Diamine (in 777) and a bit less staining because Para- Phenylene Diamine is really terrible stuff for working with.

For, of course above mentioned reason.
Do not worry, just order W665. I am sending it in whole EU.
