What markings? I have a Viso short mount 135f2.8 floating around somewhere. Once I find it I will look. I use it with Viso -R adapter on a Leicaflex - only time I like that lens. The "goggled" version always had the prism go out of alignment - and it was BIG and clumsy.

Just started one of those projects that pop's into your mind at an idle moment. I had finished loading 140 IXMOO's (800 ft) with XX and was loading a couple of M2's. One had the 40f1.4 SC Nokton on it - so the project is going to be shooting at least half of my IXMOO's with M2's and 40f1.4's (I have both the MC and the SC version).
Initial batch was a bit of a mix as two M2's had 90f2 Summicron's on them - but finished those today. From now on - all M2 shots will be XX/40f1.4!
I was also using up the last dregs of a Rodinal 500 ml bottle - just enough to do 1:50 for 10 min. Very defined grain, sharp edge - a bit "true grit" look to it. Next batch will be HC110 and Pyrocat HD as I have that stuff ready. Some stuff up on Flickr as we speak.

Some nice shots in there Tom. I haven't started on my batch of XX yet... first I need to finish off my last few rolls of TriX. Looking forward to it.

Leicanaut/Nikonaut...
In about a week I will be picking up a 400ft reel of XX from Kodak Motion Picture dept in Singapore. Will see what the fuss is all about! ISO250 makes my sunny f16 a lot easier to estimate rather than ISO400 or ISO100 film!

Yes it really does! This morning, I am using my M4-2 with Visoflex III, and 280mm F4.8 and 400mm F5 lenses. No meter. Exposures are easy to calculate, 1/1000 at F5.6 for these with my XX in full sun. I like nice beefy negatives.
Tom's Rapidwinder sure works great on M4-2. Love it!

Just posted about 30 shots on Flickr done with HC 110 1:50/11 min and XX. All shot "Sunny F16". I had forgotten how good the XX looks in HC 110. Smoother tones than with Rodinal, maybe not the "edge" of the Rodinal - but I suspect it could handle at least 11x14 before it starts looking ugly.
This was the last of my old yellow square can of HC 110 (from 1991), next comes some trial s with "fresh" HC 110.
Next 5 rolls will be done with Beutler. Should be done by thursday or friday.

Posted about 30 shots with XX and Beutler 1:1:8/ 10-11 min. Looks OK, but a bit over developed @ 250. I will do another run with 5 more rolls, still rated @ 250 but 1:1:10/12 min and slightly reduced agitation. Weather has been 1/250 @ f2.8-4 for the last couple of days, so it will be interesting to see how flat light works with it.
Still have 400ft to load tonight and then I will have 180 rolls to shoot. Cycling through the M2's and the 40f1.4's - almost done and after that I will do 35's only!

Posted XX in Beutler 1:1:10/12 min. Looks good, slightly flat in low contrast light, but much more 'palatable" with medium to high contrast.
Almost done with the 40f1.4 run - about 20 rolls - all shot "sunny f16". Very good lenses - no major difference between MC and SC versions either.
Haven't decided on Pyrocat HD or D23 for the next batch of XX.

Couldn't decide on the Pyrocat HD or D23 - so went with PCK (Patrick Gainers "Xtolish" Vit.C formula). Works very well with XX - similar to D76 but with "tighter grain". Easy to mix too - can be done in room temperature too. Good, even contrast - great shadow details.
There are a couple of 100 shots with this combination on our Flickr.

I was interested in that developer so I did a little digging. Here is an article I found:

I have used the PCK quite a bit over the years. Works very well - as long as you keep the film pretty close to rated speed. Not good for pushing.
I usually mix up 500ml of the A ( 0.3 grams of Phenidone - dissolved in rubbing alcohol and 20 grams of pure Ascorbic Acid (Vitamine C) and water to 500 ml.
The B bath is 100 grams of Kodalk and water to 1000 mi. You can make your own Kodalk by mixing Borax (69 grams) and Sodium Hydroxide (15 grams) - but as i buy Kodalk in 10 lbs quantities I haven bothered.
I do run 5 reel tanks (Paterson) and they take 1500 ml. I use 75 ml of A and 150 ml of B with water to 1500 ml.
XX/Tri X times from 7-8 min.
All liquids at room temperature - though I usually let everything stand over night after some vigerous shaking - just to let it settle.
Simple and good working developer. The 500ml A/1000 ml B gives me enough to do 30 rolls - but I suspect that it would store quite well if needed.

Does anyone have any XX they'd like to share/sell to me? I've really wanted to try it but I don't have the necessary space to split a 400' roll.

I got 400 feet of XX from Tom A. a couple of months back (thanks again Tom!). I just loaded up ~100 foot onto an old bulk reel I had and stuck that in my bulk film loader. While I was at it I rolled up a couple of rolls in the darkroom. Too bad its dark out right now! I'm itching to shoot some! Perhaps I'll chase my dogs around the house or something.
On a related note those plastic canisters from Henry's are garbage! Once I'm done shooting them I'm throwing that crap out and getting some more of the metal ones.
I'm going to shoot the first couple of rolls 250 ISO, and developing in undiluted XTOL. Anyone got a starting time for me?

I shot my first couple of rolls of XX today. EI was 250. Conditions were overcast, and cold. What else do you expect for this time of the year? I developed in undiluted XTOL for 6 minutes @ 20 degrees. I just scanned the first roll, and inspected the negatives. Density looks good! Grain is not bad, looks about the same as Tri-X. Overall I like this film so far! I uploaded a few shots to my flickr account http://www.flickr.com/photos/mnewhook/, and added them to the eastman 5222 group. Once the second roll completes scanning I'll upload a few more.

Here is some cheap Eastman 5222 available right now on Ebay. Looks like the 100' Daylight-Loading variety, with the lighttight spool. Not affiliated with the seller. I wonder if a preloaded film spool of this stuff, would just drop-into a daylight bulk loader? Anybody know?

Those daylight loading spools will fit in most bulk film loaders. If you load the bulk film loader in anything but total darkness you'll have a few feet of fogged film at the beginning of the 100 foot roll.

And here's a 400' roll of the Plus-X motion picture 5231.
Notice also, the 1000' roll, back behind the 400' one.
Al, this is from Miami!

mccolalx, I will be doing a batch load of about 20 rolls this week before turkey day. I can send out a couple of rolls to you, say on Friday. There is no charge. I load this this film by hand right off the reel. My arms are too long for a stretch of 36 and always ends up at 40+, too much for the tank reels. My nick name is (Lanky).
Cheers!

If anyone wants any in Canada to test I'd be happy to send out a couple of rolls too.
