Shooting in 50mm

Hey everyone,

Traditionally I shoot 35mm and wider, but since getting my 50mm lens CLAd, I've been wanting to shoot the 50mm length more, especially that the 50 resides on my only 'manual' camera.

Any tips/tricks for shooting 50mm? I mostly shoot people, though I normally just get closer with a 35mm lens.

This is the most natural FL, so if anything, the tips would be required for shooting with other lenses , haha... Just avoid getting closer than 1.5m for portraits unless you want some distortion to show through.

I vaguely remember I read somewhere ... can't remember where I read it or who told me... that when taking portrait there's a rule of thumb of minimum distance from the lens to a subject, to avoid distortion when using certain lens, like x times of the focal length or something like that. Is there a rule like that or is it just my imagination?

40mm gives best of both imo 🙂
