Shooting with a DSLR that needs a Zeiss?

Well, I know this is RFF but many here also have DSLR's or just old fashioned SLR's.

The ZE 21/2.8 I use is excellent and possibly the best wide angle lens I have used for my Canon DSLR setup. The closest thing canon has is the EF 17mm TSE, in terms of performance, but not being able to use filters is a serious handicap on a landscape lens.

The ZE 18mm is no where near as good, surprising since the ZM 18 is so good.

The first lens I bought for my D700 was the 50mm F1.4 Planar in ZF ... I absolutely love it and it's equally impressive on my FM3A.

It's possibly the best 50mm lens I own ... bar none!

That's not too surprising; the ZE 18 needs to be a whole lot more retrofocus to fit the SLR.

I can attest to the fabulousness of the Zeiss 35/2. I do wish it weren't so big, but it handles nicely once you get past that, and the pictures can look amazing.

Tony, you don't really mean 25mm f/2, do you?
 
Never got the Zeiss for the standard focal and short tele lengths. I think the performance of the Canon L lenses at these higher focal lengths is excellent and still having auto-focus is extremely handy.

The performance of the canon wide-angles makes me wish I was a Nikon user, and at wide angles autofocus really isn't necessary. So the ZE saved my day.

But... for those that likes manual focusing (not surprising on a rangefinder forum!!)... if these lenses are anything like the ZM 50/2, 50/1.5, 35/2 that I own... I can imagine why you love them!!

Zeiss is nice, but on a budget it is hard to beat the OM lenses which with an inexpensive adapter will give you results similar to the Zeiss gear at a fraction of the cost. Just my $.02
 
Those Zeiss ZF.2 lenses are very tempting but I just don't have the money right now. If only Voightlander would make a more SLII lenses! Something between 20mm and 40mm would be nice.
