looks like you got a good copy. Pleasing OOF- is this taken at f2?

I think it's the best existing value for money. Mine are 12$ each and I've got two and they are new (boxed and in original factory sealing) and sometimes I like the picture more than the 1.5/50 Sonnar's. But not the build and ergonomics, of course.

It's amazing what these old lenses can do.. And you don't even have to rob a bank to get that performance! Thanks for the post, Akiva. You've motivated me to spend some quality time this weekend with the NEX and an old 50mm FSU lens myself (A 50/3.5 though, not the Jupiter, but hey, it's the spirit that counts..).

Shots from my silver J-8 on the RD1. Image quality is very good but mine has a tight spot when focusing which i don't know how to correct., so it doesn't get much use. Nice lens though.

Really nice, Paul.
I borrowed Alans last year and was impressed but I understand that they can vary in quality.

I've had good ones and not so good ones
but when it's good it really is just as good as a CZJ Sonnar and much cheaper.

Beautiful photos, gents!
My mid 1950s version is my main 50mm lens. I have yet to use another lens that I like well enough to replace it in my stable. (To be fair, I have not used any Leica/Leitz 50s yet). The Canon 50/f1.8 Serenar I had was close--and certainly felt better built!--but I didn't like how my photos looked as well as I do with the Jupiter.
Can we stop talking nicely about them now? Don't want to drive the prices up...

kuvvy, good images, and really nice looking B & W form the RD-1. What post-processing was used? In any case, good stuff

I had a J-8 as my only lens for a while, was surprised at how nice it was. Wish it had click-stops for the aperture, but for the price I'm not complaining!
