Should I buy the R2???

I've had a Bessa R (hooked up with a Nokton 50mm/1.5f) for the better part of a year and I've recently been contacted by an acquaintance of mine that has offered me an R2 with a skopar 35mm/2.5f and tripod for a modest $600.

Now I don't know (yet) when was the last time the camera was CLA'd or if it comes with any of the basic stuff (lens and body caps and what not).

So should I buy it?

That may be a fair deal. As a reference point, I'm selling my virtually unused R2 with cap, box, etc. for $325, and a new CV 35/2.5 plus adaptor is about $265 at Cameraquest, then there's whatever tripod, so depending on condition...

The tripod is a Bogen compact, I'm still waiting on some info from the person.

I'm really looking for a R3M if anyone out there's got one they want to give away.

For what it's worth, the R2 is reasonably new and should not need a CLA. If the rangefinder is find, you should be ready to go!

CLA is most often something for a 20 year old camera.

I purchased a olive R2 in 99% new condition with box and papers a few months ago and paid $300. Even after using leica M's for 4 decades i can say the R2 is a heck of a camera and capable of everything the M's will do. I've shot a few dozen rolls with it and absolutely noi problems. I'm going to use it when on vacation with teh 75 and 35 PII. Much lighter than my M's and with the 2 lenses it's a tidy little package for vacations. I carry a miniomal kit when on vacation so I don't feel I'm working.
