The shutter speeds are slow on my Nikon M, but i am wondering if it is better to have it serviced or keep its original condition?

i dont plan on everyday shooting with this. but would be nice to shoot a roll once awhile.

if serviced, can i send it to DAG? or is there someone who specializes in nikon M?

thanks in advanced.

Another vote for Pete Smith, he did an excellent job on my S2.

thank you very much for the info.. i just emailed pete

and good to hear that it will not depreciate the value for a CLA.

I am not a collector guy so I would service it even if I would not use it more than for a roll or two every year - cameras are meant to be used! They need some "love and care" from time to time.... JonR

has anyone recently had service performed done by Pete Smith in the past months? i just want to make sure before i send the camera in.

i can cla it for you, free...

if you have faith... i can make the cla for free...
ask to Jan Van Laethem for my competence and jonmanjiro for my seriety...

Another vote for Pete Smith, but I sent my Nikon M off to Stephen Gandy for service. Not sure who his repair tech is (for all I know he's using Pete Smith) but the camera came back virtually brand new (the camera, when purchased, was a basket case with a gummed up shutter, hopelessly fogged Nikkor 50/2 lens, etc.). It's a real beauty now.

i would have it overhauled and serviced. The Nikon M is a reasonably rare collectible/user camera- but not rare enough to be a "shelf-queen". The M/S cameras are good users, heavy though - but the 24x34 film-gate size makes it interesting.
They are prone to erratic slow speeds. I have had a couple of M's (and plenty of S) and they all had their own idea what 1/2 sec or 1 sec was.
Nikon prices seems to be heading downward - so you might as well enjoy the camera - rather than have it sitting gathering dust.

i plan to keep the setup

it comes with original MIOJ equipment: 50 f1.4, 35 f3.5, 85 f2 lenses plus caps, hood, leather cases. original 35-135 viewfinder, self-timer, filters, manuals, and original sale receipts dated dec. 1950 at $233.35 for the complete setup.
