Old flatties never die - they just crack and become boat anchors. 😉
This was taken at "The Race of Gentlemen" a couple of years ago. Fast car, good driver!
Yes, the block of my 3.6 litre flathead V8 cracked (seized water pump) and I'm sure it's been united with a boat.
The 4.2 French flathead that replaced it in my 1949 Allard was made of sterner stuff. Its owner reports 120 bhp with the Edelbrock headers, Offenhauser twin inlet and two Strombergs!
Visiting family in Chatham, Ontario, Canada can be a bit dull at times, except if you're a car lover. Chatham happens to be home to Rob Myers of "RM Classic Car" fame. Through his global partnerships, Mr. Myers touches most of the worlds finest classic cars. This Mercedes SL was parked out front Chatham's "Retro" hotel, a Myers' side project. It's his car. A bit rough around the edges, and perhaps destined for restoration, for now, it's a daily driver. Imagine running a couple of errands in this gorgeous machine.
