If you like the looks of this Triumph Mayflower then do a search for pictures of the four door bigger version called the Triumph Renown; with luck you'll find a picture of the longer version designed as a limo; they are as rare as hen's teeth.

Beautiful Mustang, Mike! Is the "66" on the front plate indicative of the year?

Beautiful Mustang, Mike! Is the "66" on the front plate indicative of the year?

Hello, Dourbalistar, and thank you. I don’t know if it’s a ‘66 Mustang, a coincidence, or the 66th Mustang registered in Yokohama that year, but I suspect you’re right and it’s a ‘66. I’ve noticed that you’re quite observant to the small details in photographs like that. As for me, I was just sitting on a curb on the side of the road waiting for something of interest to come along and luckily within a few minutes of sitting down that Mustang happened along; it was an easy shot to take.

Haha, thanks! Small details are what make a great photo, right? 😉 For me, half the fun in shooting these old cars is trying to pin down the exact model year, rather than just saying "vintage Mustang". When I do my research, I try to look for small clues.

That said, if you Google around enough, you can find sites like this that tell you exactly how to differentiate. So based on the front grill, it looks like yours is indeed a '66. And thanks to my son's photo that included the gas cap, I think ours is a '65. I guess the license plate holder has a clue, too. 😀
