A fine Wartburg though it appears to have something on the floor under the engine to collect the drips. They were three cylinder two strokes. I doubt that America has ever experienced a two stroke car...except possibly an early Saab?

There were a few 2 stroke Saabs around in the early 50's in the States.

Valdas, the Saab 96 is my idea of a "real" Saab!
Besk, the Saab 96 with the two-stroke "Shrike" engine was imported into the US through 1968 or 1969, as I recall.
Mandatory emission controls were a requirement in the US, starting in 1968, for engines of 850cc displacement and above. At first, Saab reduced the displacement of the Shrike engine to 820cc, so that it would be exempt.
Saab had also started offering the 96 with a German Ford Taunus four-stroke V-4, around 1967. This was an especially nice package.
The Saab 96 in this photo is a European model which appears to be a 1968 or later. Saab may well have offered the Shrike engine there longer than they did in the US.

Saab 93's with the soft top are very, very tempting.

Speaking of 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines, here's a Honda 600. Apparently the first Honda model to be officially exported to the US.
