Attended an 'introduction to printing' course yesterday - 5.5 hours in the darkroom. I absolutely loved it, and wish I had done it years ago. B&W film - and the options for exposing and printing - suddenly make a lot more sense.

Some attempts in toning with self-mixed polysulfide toner on MGCT and MGWT, compared to untoned prints.

This was polysulfide after selenium. Selenium alone is a more subtle effect.

Hey there - thanks ! The bright light you see throughout the printing sequence is actually a light I rigged up with a foot switch to shine white light into my fixer tray. That way I don't have to turn on all of the room lights to check the values on a new print.

I needed to do this for the time lapse - since you have to lock down the exposure before you start filming I had to make a choice. I did not want to let the camera make exposure changes throughout the printing sequence, which meant I would have to rig up something for checking my prints without turning on the lights. When I turned the lights on for the last half I picked a new exposure and color balance. I had wanted a light like this over my sink for years, this time lapse was just a good excuse to get it done.

The enlarger is actually in the far back of the room in its only little area.

Thanks, I really enjoy working in this darkroom. Up until the past few years good darkroom equipment was really easy to find - and cheap. I was fortunate enough to gather some really nice pieces together. I've been looking for a second DeVere 504 enlarger, but they just aren't coming up (sure, if you want to spend over $1K, but who can do that?). I'd like to have two identical enlargers wit the same speed-carrier receiver. Then I could set them both up for the same negative but different print sizes. Maybe someday.
