just being curious that if anyone here have a special liking for brassed Black paint M like I do? it just makes me feels like the camera has a story behind the beaten up look.

do you do anything to get it brassed?
is it already brassed when you got it?
does your M really gone through a lot to reach that brassed look?

Please show us how nicely brassed your M is.

Mine doesn't have a lot of brassing, so there's no point in posting it, but I would never do anything to artificially brass it. It's been getting a tiny bit of brassing in some edges, so I'll just let it happen through almost daily use.

My M6 classic does not show any significant brassing yet, but has more scratches than when I first got it..

Doing something to brass it artificially is not my thing.

m9...

m9...

i'll play.

here's my m9 from 6 months ago.
it's even more brassy now, although i had the screen fixed.
apparently i misused the camera by breaking the screen while working.

i digress...

if i have time tomorrow i'll take a descent photo of my black paint m7 and put that up here. the enamel on the m7 has held up much better compared to the pain on the m9 which flakes off quite easily if you ask me.

my newer m9 shows brassing as well.

best,

jesse

only slightly brassing. notice in the top pic, the brassing around the strap lugs. This is from the previous owner and is why I HATE the original leica strap with those stupid plastic bits on each side.

rub rub rub.

Looking forward to the M7. Mine has scratches and slight brassing on the tip of the advance lever.

i'll play.

Jesse, that's the loveliest M9 I've yet seen. Fantastic.

And I think its a pretty unique one as well. I don't think anybody else has found the M9's black paint (powder coat) finish to be so fragile, especially as we first saw pictures of it only six months or so after the camera was released! Its worn almost like its an old M3

Looking at that brassed M9 I have to conclude that only Leica can get away with selling a high end camera with a finish that wears off this fast! :D

brassin'

brassin'

Selling a lens, so had the product setup going and grabbed some brassin' shots...

The BP M7 has the best finish, the newer M9 is barely 4 months old and hasn't even seen the music festival season. It got its workout during fashion week really, but by the time the M10 comes out these cameras won't have a bit of black left on them. Hah!

It's not me, the M7 has worn how I would expect a BP Leica to wear. It's brassed solely around the edges.

Thanks,

Jesse

Someone who wasn't in the know would probably be stunned to find out this was a virtually new current generation camera ... and a six and a half thousand dollar one at that!

The paint on the M9 is really pretty feeble. Mine has worn an edge of the baseplate to brass, and the top plate has developed some scratches on the edges that have not yet gotten down to the brass. I ran my thumbnail along one of those edges, and that was enough to expose the brass beneath. Not very strong paint.

I would have gotten a chrome M9 if they made one that wasn't a limited edition. The steel paint scheme... I'm not a fan of that.
