My FED-S kit

My FED-S kit

I am the proud owner of two wartime FED-S cameras, both with their original 50mm f2.0 lenses. In addition, I have bought two 100mm f6.3 (uncoupled) telelenses for FED, and two Canon viewfinders to use them, since the FED finders are near impossible to find.

The unengraved camera and lens have been serviced by Yuri at Fedka.com, and was brought into Leica specs. It allows me to use the lens on the M8 and other Leicas. The other camera is in near mint condition and fully original.

Here is what my kit looks like:

In the back is the 1947 book from John Steinbeck on Russia, with pictures by Robert Capa.

I'm not complete yet, I'm missing two old-logo rear caps, two old-logo front caps, and leather or canvas-covered lens cases with old logos. Anyone care to help me out?

Great looking kit. Yuri has worked on some of my FSU kit and does a brilliant job . the Jupiter 3 he serviced is still my favourite lens . I would guess you have a very pretty and very useable set of cameras and lenses there. .. Have fun I'm sure it won't be long before you seek a lens a bit wider but thats all part of fun - both the seeking and finding

Here's my zorki 4 with Jupiter 8 mounted. The handstrap is ugly, so I'm making a new one :)
Gonna bye some B/W film today, and hopfully develop it next week :)

ah, a thread full of fsu lovers. a bit off topic but here goes anyway: i intend to get either a FED-2 (b) or a zorki 4 to go with my jupiter-8 and industar-50 (lenses for my bessa r) for the fsu contest. which one? thanks ...

Here's mine. It's an old FED-1948-Zorki. It took a little work to get running properly, but it's a wonderful camera now. I dislike the viewfinder, so I ordered a Leica VIHOO finder to mount on it.

I ran the first roll of film though it last week, and the results were very good (even though I forgot to adjust the rangefinder first). I've got a second roll in it now, and I'm looking forward to the results.

On my table is a second FED-1948-Zorki that I'm working on. I got the shutter replaced in it, but the intermediate gear is stripped and must be replaced before I can use it. I am also on the hunt for a lens of the correct vintage to mount on it.

Paul,

FED 2 is considered more reliable, less to go wrong (no slow speeds). The 2b is likely to have a dim VF but the contrast is good (and baselength is longer) - ideal for outdoors and a hindrance for indoors. The Zorki has a much bigger, brighter VF that's near 1:1 (less contrasty though) but not quite as accurate for framing. It also has slow-speeds and a proper flash-sync that works on all speeds, 1/30th and slower. Take your pick! Handling is probably slightly better on the FED, it's a touch lower and a fraction wider.

I've just bought a box of 10 of those 42mm square lens hoods on 'that auction site'....what the hell do I do with them now?

My FED 2(b) arrived today from fedka. Sweet piece of machinery. I love the adjustable diopter! I-50 already is aboard. J-8 is back-up for now. It's off to Wal-Mart for a roll of Fuji 200 for a test roll. If all goes well, I will load a roll of xp2, 36-exposure for the fsu contest. Yipee! (Yes, I'm 58, but I still get cranked up ...)

1949 Kiev 2 with Zorki lens

Here's the result of wasting altogether too much time restoring an early Kiev.

Cheers,
