Hi lxmike, when I look at your picture that you’ve posted, your Leica IIIf is actually a Leica IIIf Red Dial. The black dial has a slow shutter speed on the top speed dial of 30-1, while the red dial has a 25-1 setting on the top speed dial. The IIIf red dial version has a more advanced shutter system than the IIIf black dial version. I see also, that your Leica IIIc is an early “stepper” wartime version of this model produced during 1941-42. Nice!
Am I right in assuming that the lump near the shoe on top of the 'stepper' covers over a hole where a flash sync once was?
My only Leicas nowadays: a black, 1932 Leica II with Elmar 50 and a chrome, 1939 Leica IIIb with Nikkor-C 3.5cm 2.5 (external finder not shown). Not sure how many have traded all their Ms for screw mount Leicas, but I for sure have no regrets so far.
I don't no either but maybe I have an idea: Is this a flash-synchronised camera? When you remove the lens, insert the card and look into the bajonet while pushing the button and shining the flash into the camera you could check if you see the whole card illuminated by the flash and the synch beeing adjusted correctly for the bulbs at hand. This is a wild guess but it should work. So, nobody here knows what the stiff card in the early Leica II case was for? I thought I’d be the only one here who didn’t know.
