Never seen that before. My Leica II is nr. 71917 and it doesn't have this.

Very unlikely that this is off-factory, more likely a creative solution from somebody with access to small jewelers tools and supplies to make sure the RF window wouldn't come undone.

Stop! I have same in my archive and even close serial number !!! Look at the factory Leitz black paint on the screw:

'37 Leica Standard and '35 Leica II D

'37 Leica Standard and '35 Leica II D

Hi folks! Happy to find these forums as I recently acquired a small camera collection from my dad and have had a rather interesting week finding out about each of them. It seems I have a 1937 Standard and '35 II D. The Standard looks a little dirty but functions like new as far as I can tell. The II D has a sticky shutter at sub 1/100 speeds and has taken a bit of a ding on the top of the rangefinder. The lenses both have cleaning marks and the Summar is pretty foggy with a few bubbles. The Elmar looks clean enough so I'm hoping they're not too bad. I shot my first couple of rolls today so we'll find out soon enough. The Standard has a bit of history in that it was apparently 'stolen' by my Dutch grandfather who, during the evacuation of Indonesia during WW2, went to the camera store to retrieve his own camera, couldn't find the owners of the shop or his camera and so grabbed this one and left!

First couple of rolls

Well, I got my first rolls back from my Standard and IID. Glad to say the Standard is working perfectly (pretty sure it hasn't been serviced in my Grandfathers time and has been in various attics since 1971), the Elmar is really clear and pretty sharp, albeit with a very slight loss of contrast because of the combination of lack of coating and bright sunlight. Turns out it's a '37 too so it's possible that it's the original lens that came with the camera.

The IID unfortunately doesn't work right. Every image, whatever the speed, was only exposed on the far right (or left maybe) of the print meaning, I guess, that the first curtain is sticking and being 'helped' along by the impact of the second. I CLA would be appropriate I suppose but it's a lot of money so I've got some thinking to do!

Unfortunately I don't have a scanner so I can't scan the shots yet. I'm only shooting with cheap Fuji stuff right now anyway so they're not exactly the stuff of artistic legend....

her Kenko Hood aka Crown, a Beautiful niikor bakeliite case,

I'm diggin the Old Nikkor World 😀

Good Fun Indeed , I have never tried Blue filter or a very pale orange almost pale brown filter... Now I have a LUST to EXPLORE Nikkor

but Im in no hurry, this set up can suit me just Fine ...

Mine is a black Leica II with a black Tanar 2.0/50mm and I'm pretty sure that this lens is a Nikkor copy, if not simply a rebadged Nikkor. It's almost identical, even down to 2-ft close focusing like the Nikkor.

Really regret missing out on that lovely Nikkor 4.0/25mm that you (and me) just commented on in the Classifieds 🙁 Unlikely I'll ever encounter one at a lower price so might as well forget about it.

Lovely case and filters you got with it, and even a Nikkor lens booklet!

The way that Tanar 2.0/50mm Sonnar draws... my nickel 2.0/50mm Heliar hasn't seen much sunlight lately😱
And every now and then I do find an image that reassures me I made the right choice in not selling the W-Nikkor 1.8/35mm🙂​

Seems you like the Tanar, Johan, thats fine.
Glad it sees use now. I have always preferred the Canon 50/1.8.
 
picked up a IIIc stepper yesterday and the friend that I purchased it from said that when he showed it to Jim Lager 25 years ago Jim commented "that is the rarest thing you have"
At that time my friend had many many leica cameras so I am wondering is there anything special about this camera other than it is a stepper. It has none of the obvious things like a K or military markings or a red shutter curtain. I can only figure that if there is something it would have to be the engraving or possibly the 4.5 135mm Hector that came with it ( I only paid what I thought was a good price for a IIIc in this condition not for some unperceived rarity)

the other good news for me was that I purchased a old Leitz enlarger at a estate sale last Friday for $15 (the wife not very happy about me dragging another enlarger home) When I got home with the new camera I thought I would take a look at the enlarger and see what kind of lens it had on it. Much to my surprise and joy, low and behold it had a 1945 collapsible Elmar on it which I feel is the perfect match for the IIIc and can be seen in the above pictures. Here is a picture of the camera with the Hector on it

Johan ..... thanks for your input..... who knows what the conversation was or was referring to so long ago. As for the Hector, it does not seem to have anything remarkable about it and it is not something I can see myself using much but it is a nice looking well built lens and I certainly do not mind having it (you can see I have not had a chance to clean it up yet)
