Inspired by suzi_q's "Where's your Hexar RF" thread. A bookcase may say more about the person than a self-portrait, and could really be considered a self-portrait (in some respects), so let us see a picture of your bookcase. (I know it is customary for the initiator of the thread to post the first photo, but I'm at work so I will have to post one tonight).

:)

it won't stop me from photographing my bookcase later today, but to quote from 'high fidelity', the important thing is what you're like, not what you like. ;D

Ah, but a peek at a bookshelf is like a glimpse into the soul.

Or, at the very least, the ego. Yeah, that's more like it.

Cheers,
--joe.

I don't have a bookcase of my own, per se, as my books have been slightly lumped into my family's communal bookcase. I do, however, have a "musiccase," if you will. I'll get a picture up later.

I have far too many bookcases to fit them all in a single picture. Unless someone wants to send me an Xpan :)

We might have to ammend this to a "show us your favorite bookshelf" thread... I have at least 4 full large bookcases, and you won't be able to see what's on any of them with a web resolution image.

I like the idea tho.

Eight in my case, not counting paperbacks stacked in the basement and Ebooks.
Might try listing ten favorite books (ones you re-read, not ones you decorate with!) instead?

Putting my money where my mouth is:
(in no particular order)

Rats, Lice and History
Seven Roman Statesmen
War through the Ages
Washington in Lincolns Time
Commodore Hornblower
The Three Musketeers
Commodore Hornblower
Man Eaters of Kumaon
A Canal Side Camera
The Adventures of Haji Baba of Ispahan

(and the set-up) - "You said 'Commodore Hornblower' twice..."

:D

I'll have to ponder my list a bit. Some obvious ones, but some not so.

Henderson, The Rain King - Saul Bellow
Hot Water Music - Charles Bukowski
Post Office - Charles Bukowski
Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said - Philip K. Dick
Mortal Engines - Stanislaw Lem
The Rubaiyat - Omar Khayyam
The Devil's Dictionary - Ambrose Bierce
Christ in Concrete - Pietro Di Donato
Jude the Obscure - Thomas Hardy
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card
Franny And Zooey - J. D. Salinger
A Garden of Sand - Earl Thompson

There are more. I read more books on the history of photography these days than nearly anything else. I find I prefer the comforting recitation of facts to the sadness of human existance.

I guess that you are talking about the chair? It was designed for a TV channel that was going to interview alot of International musicians. I bought it when they were done with it in a design shop. Its a man´s chair and I had to have it:) .

I like the chair...I love the bookshelf...:D

Oops!
Scratch out one 'Commodore Hornblower'
and add:
The Wind in the Willows

Yeah, definitely, just show us what you want, the bookcase on the headboard of your bed, in the bathroom, your favorite shelf, or the whole thing. I've got way to many bookshelves scattered around the house. This one here holds some of my photo books, it's next to my desk, and obviously and ungracefully spliced.

When I'm first invited into someone's house, the first thing I try to glance at is their bookcase. More often or not, what's contained within is a fair indicator of the type of person one is dealing with. It's also a way of finding areas of common interest and thus conversation.

My books are spread all over, in boxes, at my friends, grandma, relatives, and some of them are in here and a little back there...I made sure it's gonna be dim enough to hide the mess :D

now THAT's a bookcase! :) That's the way mine would look if the S.O. would turn a blind eye.
