Hi,

Many years ago I searched out an original OM-1 without the MD badge and the plain base plate. Meaning one that had to be sent back to Olympus for modifying if a MD or winder was to be used.

Alas the prism foam had attacked the prism but I discovered - talking to Micheal Spencer that the OM10 ones fitted (and he had some) and so I got the OM-1 completely restored. Then I started looking for dud OM10's to stockpile prisms but despite buying them in flea markets and so on and never spending more that a fiver for one with the standard lens I never found a dud but I did discover what nice, relaxed cameras they were and the metering is hard to confuse, like the µ-I's. Add the 28mm (cheap) and the 85mm f/2 (dear) or 135mm f/2.8 (cheap) and you've a good outfit...

One of my Plaubel Makiflexes, with Plaubel 270mm f5.5 Auto-iris Schneider Tele-Arton, and Graflex 23 Roll FIlm Back. This is what I will be testing next up.
The Stovepipe Viewfinder I cobbled up myself, from an old RB67 mag hood.

Hi David,

Yes, the OM10 prism will fit the OM-1, but I wouldn't do such a change. The prism deterioration on the OM-1 isn't important to me.
And the damaged prism can just be cleaned and there won't be any visible difference from a new prism. The de-silvering is a real thing, but due to something called total internal reflexion, it won't matter once cleaned of the goo.
This was explained to me by an engineer.
The OM-2 and my OM-1 MD have the prism foam deteriorated. I'm not going to bother to clean it. It was damaged years ago and now it wouldn't do any more damage.
In terms of lens I favour the light and compact ones. So, it is the 135mm /3.5 and not the larger /2.8. Same for the 35mm /2.8 and not the larger and dear 35mm /2. Still looking for the 21mm /3.5.

Hi,

Were your ears burning? I've been looking for the old prism and trying to photograph it... It was in an evil state with the silvering off and black gunge everywhere. It didn't cost much extra to replace and I wanted the original OM-1 perfect to keep forever and all that and - of course - then found old age overtook the plans, as it does...

I was lucky with the 135mm f/2.8 and the OM dedicated x2 converter in that they were in a charity shop. I was very impressed with the x2 converter; an interesting beast.

Forty years ago our school had Career Day and I invited a photographer from the Arizona Republic to speak. During our lunch break he gave me a quick lesson with his camera and said come back in an hour. A few days later he returned to school with my prints. I was hooked and wanted a Nikon bad. But they were too expensive. I saved my bucks a while and bought a Minolta to start with. But I never did forget using that F2 and always wanted one. Saturday I found one and pounced.

If "being entirely independent of batteries (except for the meter)" is the important bit, the FM2 is Nikon's version of the Minolta SRT101 :angel:

It seems the only picture of my SRT on-line is one of the bottom.... One day I'll show a better picture, but for now the bottom has to do:
