Show us your SLR ..... WHAT?

Olympus gear seems to keep some price level, probably for rareness compared with other quality gear. A Zuiko 85/2 I watched last weekend went for 252 USD (double what I've paid for a Nikkor-S 85/1.8) and OM-4 seem to go for 200 EUR even with no function guaranteed. So I think building up some basis will cost some time!

Not sure if it's still there, but 2tcreative was looking for a trade/sale
on his OM4 and lenses. He had a 35/2 among others.

And Joe has a 180/2.8 he wants to get rid of.

Taking time with this is fun though 🙂

I've been using this one a fair bit in the last few weeks--5x7" Press Graflex.

Here's a photo taken with this camera and the stock B&L 5x8" (about 240mm) f:4.5 Tessar--

The lens shown on the camera in the attachment is a Goerz 12" Gold Dot Dagor. I also have a nice coated Schneider 210/3.5 Xenar for it that doesn't quite focus to infinity on this camera, but it's perfect for indoor shooting where I need a fast lens.

I am not saying that the Takumars and especially the SMC Takumars are not good. They are. Their build quality is excellent. I just think that they are overpriced compared to their practical use value and that is mostly due to collector interest. Many people also seem to think that they are much better than all other Japanese lenses of the same era and some people even seem to believe that they are better than prime lenses of other manufacturers designed in the 1980s or even in the 1990s!

OK, in my ongoing series of out-of-the-ordinary SLRs I introduce my newest crazy acquisition, the Minolta Vectis S1 APS SLR. A pretty sweet little SLR with all the features you would ever need. Well, not quite all, since the flash hot shoe is propietary and the built-in flash is quite weak (GN10 at ISO 100).

The picture with the Electro 35 GSN is for size comparison. The S1 has a high quality 22-80 mm (28-100 35 mm equivalent) f/4-f/5.6 zoom attached; the kit zoom is even smaller. It uses Minolta V series lenses, which have an image circle that cover only the APS-H frame. The thing weighs only about 650 grams with the 22-80 mm lens, batteries, film and strap. The pentamirror design has allowed to eliminate the prism hump and still the viewfinder is reasonably big and bright; much better than the 4:3 system and APS-C sensor DSRLs I have seen, in fact. Unfortunately I do not have the Pentax Auto 110 for a REALLY small SLR😛

Ladies and Gentleman, allow me to show you the beautiful Kiev-10, one of the earliest semiautomatic SLR in the world, and the first automatic diaphragm control camera made in the FSU. They were made from 1965 to 1974 and they already had an in-built lightmeter,metallic fan shutter – up to 1/1000 s and a microcrystal focusing system. Heavy, solid and beautiful, this one is from 1972.

Well, I'a not Uncle Bill, but the lens on the first F is the legendary "affordable but great" Nikkor-H 50/2.0. It was probably one of the best f/2.0 normal lenses in the 1960s. Quite respectable even by modern standards. No need to carry around anything faster (and heavier) unless you absolutely need it, since the Nikkor-H 50/2.0 is reasonably sharp even wide open. Fairly light and compact, too. My wife has one. (She has all the Nikon SLR gear in our household 😀)

The lens on the second F appears to be a 50/1.4, but it's difficult to be sure.

I really like the black MX. I would love to get one in a better condition, but they are pretty rare, and currently it's more important for me to get a top condition LX to go with my new black FA Limiteds 😉

This KX is really strange. Usually, the black Pentax bodies have white engravings on them. This one doesn't. Perhaps it has been painted over. But I like it. It makes the already martial-looking KX look so uber-evil 😀
