Superb Simon, I'm hunting for an F2SB or an F2AS at the moment. I wish I'd not sold my last one! Always the way! Sover does great work and I still have my early type F2 that he did an extended service on. I'm so glad I didn't sell it.

This setup is my favorite F2 configuration. IMHO, the F2 w/DP3 finder is one of the truly great cameras for use in existing light photography. I have owned & used one continuously, from the time of their intro (1976) without issue, save the changing of batteries.
Alone, the F2 body is virtually indestructible, in a pinch it can be used for self defense & afterwards use it to photo the scene as evidence. ;)

I feel the same way about my motorized black F2.
Got mine used in 1988 with a Photomic finder that I immediately swapped out for a DP-12, which I've used without problems since.

There is also a later version of the FTn that got the "Apollo" treatment, with black plastic tipped self timer and winding levers (and maybe an improvement on the metering system?). Sometimes found with the "K" sticker still on the winding lever retainer.

That would be late F bodies with some F2 cosmetics, not F2 bodies which all already have the plastic tipped wind levers.

Talking Nikkormats here, Frank, that they were upgraded to the plastic tips in the last round of FTn production. Nikon never called them "Apollo", some have just referred to them as such, like the F's.

I swear these things just keep finding me. Found this F at a Goodwill store with the FTn finder and 50mm for $49. Then I tracked down a pretty decent plain prism finder for a not so ludicrous price and I now have a pretty lovely classic SLR to work with ;).

Sam--the MD4 is a great drive, and nearly indestructible. It really makes the F3 easier to handle--the only disadvantage--the added weight.
Good luck with the new kit! How do you like the 24? Do you find it pretty sharp?

Paul,
The added weight doesn't bother me as I have an F2a with the MD-2/MB-1, an F4 with the MB-23/MF-23 and an F5...all heavy cameras...
I have wanted this F3/MD-4 set up since first seeing one many years ago...never ever thought I'd actually own one...
As far as the 24mm, I like the focal length and the results but I haven't used it as much as I should...
