Thanks Akiva! I know you are quite fond of the F, I was really excited to find this one, it is a joy to shoot with. I find that I definitely prefer the plain prism to the FTN finder that I also have, I haven't tested it with batteries but it's so clean I presume the meter works. I just like the profile of the camera better with the plain prism, and the absolutely empty viewfinder is incredibly refreshing.

That R6 posted above sure is lovely looking! I would love to try an R series someday.

The Canon EF is a wonderful FD series camera. I had one myself, the electronics were fried, but all the mechanical speeds worked great and it was a sturdy and reliable camera.

The EF has long been a favorite of mine, it having the same hefty feel of the first Canon F-1 & F-1n. The EF was IMHO one of the first dedicated "existing light" cameras (1973-78), with the capability of 30 second automated exposures. This long exposure capability blew the socks off my previous long auto-exposure favorites, the Pentax ES & ESII.
The Pentax ES & ESII are another pair of cameras from the early 70's (ES 1971-73, ESII 1973-75) distinguished by having automated exposures out to 8 seconds. They also have surprisingly bright & un-cluttered viewfinders compared to the competition of their day, housed in a relatively compact & light weight camera body.
Now the Nikon F & F2 are another story... 😎

I seem to have awoken a latent admiration for the EF. Happy to have done so. It is a wonderful handling camera, the one caveat I have found is the rather clumsy DoF preview when in AE mode. Oh, and the winder is so smooth (and strong) it can easily rip the film from the end of the roll if not careful 😉

Hi maitani, thanks. It is the Schneider Xenon 50mm f1.9 auto later model. In terms of sharpness it is not very far behind the famed Alpa Kern 50/1.9 AR.

There is quite a bit of brassing which adds to the character but it is in very good condition...🙂

I hadn't considered an autofocus body but when KEH (the *******s!) sent me an email that they were having a sale on bargain grade F4s bodies for $105 I had to check it out. I liked what google told me (particularly about playing well with old lenses) so I picked one up. To cut down on the weight I picked up the small grip. I figured I should have 1 autofocus lens and B&H was selling the AF 50mm/f1.8 D for $114 new. What an amazing camera! A portrait with his older brothers.
