So after have asked why you practice photography, of which the results were pretty interesting, I would really like to see your absolute favorite shot ever taken. I dont mean technical perfection, I mean photos with a meaning, something you might of enlarged and hung above your desk, something that reminds you of whatever important .... something with "feeling"

I have just acquired a scanner and will upload my first ever picture on the web which is my absolute favorite, I have this hanging over my desk in a quit large enlargement, it is technically imperfect, the scan is bad, the negative is worse I'm still trying to sort out photoshop ... but for me it has value ....

Please show us yours, I'm really interested .....

I have to follow on Frank's direction, the galleries are great for finding evocative and inspring images.

It might take longer but most members have something to show in their galleries. Quite a few of them are wonderful. Why not have a look there?

Now, if I could force myself to be a selective as Frank 😉

I have looked through the galleries, and I agree some of them are great, but this is not what I'm after..... you must have one particular photo which you reall like, genuinly like .... a favorite for what ever reason ... thats the one I would like to see...

The first 2 shots I took with my Leica M2, 2.8/50 Elmar (from 58). I had gone out with 13,000 danish crowns to find a Hasselblad, and looked at an M2 and it was instant love. Somewhat crappy scans, shot on XP2 Super, at 1/15th and wide open.

I think this is a great idea for a thread. I think this photo is probably my favorite that I have taken. I feel kind of bad that it was already 2.5 years ago. I feel like I should have a new best photo every day!

I just liked the angle of view, the subject matter and the colors. Taken before I had an RF though -- Canon F1N and 50mm f/1.2L on E100VS (strangely, I have never used this film every again).

Unfortunately I have lost the originals to my all-time favorite shots:

1. My father standing at the wheel with his best friend, both in rain gear on Lake Michigan during a Chicago/Mackinac race with a huge following sea that looked in the picture like it was going to overtake them -- I was braced beside the cabin shooting back and Kodachrome reproduced the reds, blues, and greys beautifully...I wonder if I'll ever find that slide.

2. 1985: Miss Miller American running in Detroit with Chip Hanauer at the helm of the first turbine powered unlimited hydro, setting a course record of just under 140mph average speed on a three mile course. The shot was panned as she passed in front of the Detroit Yacht Cub, a lovely red tile roof building, and one shot of perhaps thirty or more taken (why we like motor-drives) came out razor sharp with just the blurred background I was hoping for. Miller Brewing bought the photo from me.

How pathetic -- in all the film I've burned in all of these years only two shots that mean a damn!!! 😀

Lost shots are like lost memories, always leaves a lot open for imagination, thats why they are treasured .....

Well, I have this one hanging on my wall. It's not the world's greatest shot, but it reminds me of a fabulous day spent with a very dear friend. That makes it priceless to me.

P.S. I had to downsample quite a bit to make the attachment size limit but you'll get the idea 🙂

Frank S, I believe the shot of the couple walking away in the middle of a blizzard should be your favorite. I know the story, but even without it, it's a very poignant image.

Needless to say, it's among my favorites.

As for me... I have one favorite for each day of the week of three or four months. What can I do? I'm fickle... 🙂

This one is very old, I'm going to say 1971. This is a lousy scan of a small print. I have a very nice 11x14 of this which is still very striking. I really don't know why this is one of my all time faves, but it is. It takes me back to that time whenever I concentrate on it. It was really just a chance shot.

Jarvis,
I intended to comment about your photo but its impact is something I must digest. There is a feeling of a life lost or looking back at choices, good or bad, but something keeps coming up. The story goes to the heart of all of us.
My photo was taken with an SLR, Autofocus, and a great deal of luck. These fine boys are my grandsons and I bet I've burned a mile of film of these two, but this one is my all-time favorite. The youngest loves to go to the park, as did his mother, and the slide is his favorite. With fine hair and static electricity this was bound to happen, but unexpectedly his brother just appeared and reacted thusly. I couldn't have posed them like this, serendipity!
