Wayne,

One memory is sublime, the other is crass. Can you guess which is which?

(I do appreciate the humour, though.)

Yes, I can tell the difference and I much prefer the sublime as it is truly art. The crass is just an observation of sad human behavior.

The View from Cloud 9

How about a view of the Kilalau Valley from the clouds. By the way, it's your former IIIf at work.

doubs43, I like that street shot, fine delineation of the man with briefcase. I'm trying to make out the bright item on the nearby door...

Jan and Doug, thank you both very much. I appreciate the compliments.

Doug, the image on the window is a gentleman carrying a briefcase! It's a taylor's shop and it was the image on the window and the man with the briefcase that made it "work" for me. It was a hurried shot and if I could have been a step or two to the left, the image on the window would have been easier to make out. On a paper print, it comes out quite well as it is.

Doug, while we're exchanging notes, I've been meaning to tell you that your avitar is - hands down - the best one on RFF. The coy look on the young lady's face as she stole a glance back at you is priceless IMO. It's easy to see why you choose that shot.

Thanks, Walker! Too bad it had to be cropped so much, though.

Solinar, nice landscapes... and those locations look familiar, both in the west/northwestern area of Kauai. 🙂

Well,
Most of my favorites are also of my wonderful wife. Makes me happy, so it's my computer's backdrop. 😀
Bessa R, CV 35mm Skopar C lens and XP2.

Frank/Wayne🙂 LOL
that reminds me of our small group-excursion in the last year. We went by bus, and the only two female colleagues we have were sitting right in the front. A new indian student of the group went in the front with a camera to take our photo, and he said with that sexy indian accent:
"Evryboddy, show me your tits!"

Well, he got what he eventually wanted, the whole bus was laughing with all the teeth visible, however he needed some time to understand why we were sooo cooperative.

Great shots, everybody. And great teeth, frank 😉

Wish I could have gotten in on this while the thread was still hot, but I've been too busy shooting and developing film. 😉

This attached photo is one of the most personal, evocative photos that I've ever taken.

This kid died hardly a couple days later due to drug overdose/interaction. All of my friends were shocked. He was such a smart, empathetic guy. I showed this photo to him while he was still alive and he disliked how self-conscious he looked, but I always thought it was telling of his personality.

At his funeral, his "adoptive" parents (to whom he was not close -- his real parents having disappeared somehow from his life earlier) had no recent photographs of him. I printed up a bunch of this one and now I see it occasionally on people's walls.

It was important because the emotional fallout from his sudden self-inflicted death brought me closer to a group of friends with whom I was only casually acquainted, in turn causing me to fall for a certain girl. And now we shoot film together! Worst of times, best of times. 😉

Cheers, all. Great thread.

That's a powerful portrait, tetrisattack... Have you given any thought to cropping a bit on the right to dump that bit of railing? Might strengthen the black/white effect of the background.

I should have, and if I ever print it again, I will. It's a 645 negative, so there's plenty of wiggle room.

I have looked through the galleries, and I agree some of them are great, but this is not what I'm after..... you must have one particular photo which you reall like, genuinly like .... a favorite for what ever reason ... thats the one I would like to see...

I can't select one that's my all-time favourite. Selecting a fav IMO isn't very useful either. My favourite changes per my mood and over time. So, no favourite for me but check my gallery and find the one you like most. 🙂

i only have about 20 or so scanned images right now, but this is my fav of the bunch. it is a friend at a poker party we all had.

my fav of all time right now is a harmonica player in Panama...when i finnally get a scanner maybe i'll dig this thread up and post it.

Ive only been shooting regulary for about a year and a half but this is my favorite so far. Not taken with a rangefinder or even a film camera for that matter.

My personal favorite portrait is a photo I took of my daughter's cousin Emma, while we were in Norway. She's incredibly shy, so getting a decent photo of her is a miraculous thing. I took the photo with my Nikon F4s, Sigma 105mm Macro. Taken on Fuji Neopan 400, and I don't remember what the setting were.
