CK, just treat the VF as a minor annoyance and visualize the results and let the glass does its magic. I have the same irritation compared to ALL my other viewfinders, but the proof is in the results. And the lenses do magic on m43, Fuji X, as a bonus. I seem to prefer the 90 on the G, though I like shooting 28 on a GRD (no choice there; it's the discipline). I'll check out your friend's link.

I almost never shoot my 90mm Robert, I'll have to give it another chance soon.

I wish it were only a "minor annoyance." More like a major frustration for me at times. What compelled me to sell my last G2 was finding a scene on a Manhattan street, and when i raised the camera, i couldn't match the eyepiece to my eye! Had to shift the camera three times and then look away from the subject and down at the camera to center my eye.... Man, i was cursing.... A simple thing like that.

I don't want to turn this into a Contax-bashing post, but jeezus, what were they thinking? A full-fledged, top of the line, gloriously-built piece of kit with a P&S viewfinder. Oh, my lawd, what a G3 could have been.

I suppose it's not so bad if you regularly use P&S cams, but i'm attached to SLRs and medium format, so i feel especially impaired by a G2. If, while i was using it, i could think more about the results than the actual view, maybe we could get along.

I'm sure i'll try again, though. Those machines are so beautiful and the glass is fantastic.

Anyway, keep posting pictures, please. I'm not going to hold anyone else responsible for the GAS or my succumbing to it.

CRod - One thing I like about the Zeiss G lenses is that despite their high-contrast, modern look, the do show a nice degree of tonal gradation even in the shadow areas (though it helps to overexpose.

Here is some color on a G45, for counterpoint:

Nice photos, I'll be trying to overexpose a bit next time I shoot first I'll be sending it out to get repaired.

I hear you... it goes in cycles for me too! Always plotting to trade everything away for ZM equivalents but always doubting if the results will truly be the same.

Glad that I found this forum! I just received a G2 with the 35mm, 45mm and 90mm lenses as part of a payment for doing some senior pictures for a family friend. Anyways I did some snapshooting through my first roll of film (Kodak Gold 400...not fancy) and I must say the 45mm f/2 is awesome! This double exposure was accidental...

Yes the 45mm f2 is a great lens, sadly the price for them is sky rocketing. The double exposure feature is a nice plus!
