Anyone else wish that they had utilized a traditional lever to cock the shutter and get ready to shoot the next frame? It could also lend itself to drawing out the noise to a point that everyone is use to. Online they're comparing the shutter noise of the two, well naturally the M8 is noisier because it's also winding the shutter.

There are a lot of people on this group asking for that "traditional lever". Not only for the noise, it would save more battery power as well and I believe that is one of the reasons why R-D1 have the lever.

Online they're comparing the shutter noise of the two, well naturally the M8 is noisier because it's also winding the shutter.

I don't know what to say. I would go to the store to compare it myself and I hope you do the same.

No. Maybe we should have a poll?

Actually I do not care that much, but it does not seem needed to me. I am quite happy without any wind lever on my Hexar RF. I do not mind winding my other M bodies either, but they have more excuse to have it than the M8.

I am more concerned by lack of easy access to exposure compensation and ISO, and a shutter dial that goes in the wrong direction. But maybe that is not such a big deal if does right almost all time when set to AE... It would also look cleaner without that red dot....

Minor issues really, I think they got most of it right.

I am not a Leica expert so my question is which one is "reverse"; the MP or the M6?

I'd be fine without the advance lever, I've used plenty of cameras without them with never a problem. However all of them had some kind of thumb bump on the back. I wonder if Leica will sell an add-on fixed wind lever for a thumb stopper, in the way they sell the add-on crank for the MP rewind. Shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred 😀

I would love it to have a lever even if it was just for decorative purposes and ratched simply because I'm so accustomed to the motion. A rangefinder without a lever I imagine would feel very unnatural.

I must be the odd man out: I have always preferred the reverse shutter dial as being more logical in use and I do not regret the passing of the shutter lever as it is slower than the "winder" function of the M8 and most importantly will make the use of the Visoflex much more ergonomical.

The MP and M6 go same direction. Same as M2, M3, M4, Hexar RF, Bessas.

The odd ones are M6TTL, M7 and M8.
