Shutter button sticking - shutter speed dial

Hello,
I noticed something funny with regards to the shutter button and the shutter speed dial. This weekend the shutter button started sticking hard, such that I couldn't push the button at all. I had a soft release mounted and I noticed that the soft release button would turn and turn. If you turned the soft release to a certain position the shutter button would get freed up.

It looked like the shutter speed dial was a little bit off of its AE mark. When I turned the shutter speed dial away from AE and back again, the shutter worked fine.

Has anyone else had this kind of problem? I'm trying to decide if this is a real problem or not.

Regards,

Larry

I have never had problems with the shutter release, but then I don't have a soft release. If I have a shutter release cable in the unit, and I try to review an image, I have to muck a bit with it to get it to take the 1/2 press, and sometimes with the cable release locked in, the shutter button can slip down a bit and stay there until I pull it back up a bit. That's the only thing I've ever noticed, but it hasn't really been a real issue for me.

Sounds like you may have a faulty switch mechanism. That's probably something for Epson to fix... If so, I hope they are quick with a replacement and that it is well aligned and in good order...

I use a softie but I've never experienced the things you mention. I also never use the AE setting, preferring to set shutter time myself.

That is exactly the problem I experienced this morning. I also noticed that if I turned the button it would fire. My problem is that it no longer seems to work with the release.

Thanks Larry and Jeff, your experiences will keep me from screwing one of my softreleases into the R-D1 shutter button!

I just screwed the red one on a black Kiev 4AM where it looks absolutely gorgeous, as it's on the top of the large windup wheel. Really cool.
