EXIF-O-Matic & EXIF Viewer for Mac are not of any help either.

Not possible unfortunately. Best you can do is look at the sequential numbers on the filenames, assuming they haven't been reset (menu option to turn off sequential numbering) or otherwise mangled by sharing partially-filled cards between multiple R-D1's. Of course these roll over at 10000 anyhow...

how many shutter actuations should be the camera's lifespan? I never came across this info.
