Shutter curtain material for Leica screw models

I have tried the shutter curtain material from micro-tools.com and found it to be at best fair quality probably not able to stand up to much use and was wondering where I might find quality material short of buying curtains from DAG.

His shutter curtain material is of the same so-so quality as micro-tools is..plus I have found it to be slightly thicker than the material used in Leicas.

DAG has original curtains with tapes which I guess is the route I'll take.

Rubber deteriorates over time, even if it just sits around.

The big question is of course where these rubberized cloths comes from. I suspect that much of what is offered via non-OEM is in fact cut from rolls of rubberized cloth that's used in offset printing. It's made to be wrapped on a drum once and withstand the very high pressures during printing. And not to be not rolled up and stretched time after time (as a shutter). So it's no surprise that it's not really perfect..

My first post

Slightly off topic - have any of you guys put together a small tool kit for taking a 111a or similar apart
If so - where from, (UK if possible - but the US ships to the UK so no problem if from the US)

Are there any useful articles around - with a CLA procedure? - internet or otherwise

I have just aquire a 111a that needs quite a lot of TLC and I would like to do it myself

What lubricants are available which are near to the original

What you want is Tomosy's book on Leica Camera Repair, and the National Camera book on the Leica IIIc. Between those, and with good dexterity and mechanical intuition, you should be able to do it.

You can make all the tools you need, see Tomosy. You would need a Jeweler's saw to make the ring wrenches.

But, it is good to practice on a Russian copy first.
