Well, when the slow speed mechanism is set up properly, it is a "Time" exposure function, it locks the shutter open until you turn the slow speed dial away. If you are haveing any problems with it, or need to adjust it, feel free to ask.

Timely posting, I'm expecting a 3 shortly and would just like to check the slow speed operation, I'm just going by my Perfex Fifty-Five
Correct me if I'm wrong please.
Cock the shutter, set regular speed dial to slowest (or mark below) set slow speed on front. Fire shutter, cock and set slow speed to fastest (or to what?), change regular speed dial.
Now how about the D setting?
I'd like to get it right so it doesn't have to go straight back to Oleg

Here, I'll outline it for you:
Note: The Slow speed (NOT the normal one!) dial can be set throughout the range of its values without cocking the shutter without damage.
Fast shutter operation: As per normal Zorki
1) Cock shutter
2) Lift dial to set speed
3) Fire
Slow Shutter operation on the Zorki 3:
1) Cock shutter
2) Lift and set dial to "25-1"
3) Rotate shutter speed dial to desired speed
4) Fire
If you wish to fire with slow speeds again,
5) Cock shutter
6) Change slow speed dial to desired speed (if required)
7) Fire
If you are done using slow speeds:
1) Set slow speed dial to 25 - this will prevent the mechanism from activating in "Bulb" mode - if this does happen, it just means that it will delay the second curtain closing for however much time the dial was set to.
"D" setting - AKA "Time Exposure"
1) Cock shutter
2) Set Slow speed dial to "25-1"
3) Rotate dial to "D" position
4) Release Shutter
The 1st curtain will now open, but the 2nd will not close after you release the shutter button/cable
5) To Close shutter, roll the dial away from the "D" setting.
This is how the shutter should operate when everything is in proper order.

So the 3 has a D setting about as useful as that of the Leningrad, which I still think is one of the best looking of the bunch

Yeah, it's not too useful considering that you have to twist it to close.
