Hi
I was wondering how long is the shutter life span of a R?
I know an RF is not like a slr where it can go 8 or 10fps and ratatatatata ...
(the pro slr rates 100k to 200k onwards of shutter actuations)

anyways, did anyone of you experienced a shutter die on you?
(i understand there are 2 shutters in a RF too!)

=)

I was wondering about that too in my R3A but when I posted that question I got slammed. So maybe you can ask about the R3A for me. Thanks. 😎

Yes, my Bessa-T shutter (which is identical to the one in the R) went after a measly 720 frames.. Repair under garantuee, but it takes ages.. Still haven't got it back after 4 weeks.. :bang:

I don't know, but I'm not losing sleep worrying about how long my Bessa R shutter's going to last. I recall reading on another thread once that 750,000 was a ball park figure. In which case shooting 24 exposure rolls you'd use something like 31,000 rolls. Let's say I'm way off base and the shutter will only last 100,000 clicks. That's still 4,000+ rolls. If you shot one roll daily that's in the neighborhood of 10-11 years. You'd probably be tired of the camera by then.

So, throw it away and buy a new one.

I once read atat the Bessa uses two metal shutters because the deigner wanted to ensure that it would be light tight.

He thought that the standard Copal shutter was largely meant for SLR installation and Copal assumed that the mirror would protect it from direct light.

I don't know whether this is true or not, and I can't find the article.

Other RF cameras seem to work just fine with only one shutter.

The article on the Bessa R shutter using two sets of blades.

The Voigtlander Prominent also used two sets of blades on its metal leaf Compur shutter.

The secondary blades were stuck open for a time on my Prominent. Loaded with ASA400 film, I took a twenty minute walk with it pointed into the sun at F1.5. Did not seem to leak. Now, push some film to ASA3200 or so, could be a problem. The Polaroid 180 also used two sets of blades on its shutter.
