Hi,
I just bought a Bessar R and am encountering a shutter issue I haven’t been able to find online. Basically the “first shutter” will load and fire just fine, but the second shutter will not fire. Does anyone know what is going on and if this is repairable?
Thanks!

This sounds like a repair is required.
You just bought the camera: can you return it? A repair is going to be expensive.

We shall see, this was a Facebook marketplace purchase. The guy seems nice enough, but we’ll see if he’ll take it back. This sounds like a repair is required.

Low/dead battery?
Lens cap on lens causing AE to attempt a very long speed?
Does the issue happen when shutter speed dial is set to 60?

The shutter is mechanical so this isn't a battery problem.
By 'first' shutter I assume you mean the front shutter. The front shutter triggers the back, main, shutter so it may be related to the coupling between the two. The main shutter is a Copal shutter and they're usually pretty reliable. Either way, it needs a repair so I would send it back.
