Shutter noise and vibration

[M like Leica M6]

Since many years I use an M6... and I still find it too noisy and the vibration when the shutter works could be less... am I a fanatic? Well, probably... next week i will finally have my Vt deluxe.

In the past I tried a Bessa (really loud), a ZM (the same) an old RF Contax (whizzz) and a Contax G2 (pling-whizzzz). A complete orchestra...

Which Canon screw mount rangefinder is less noisy than an M6? Is there something "Leicaish" that makes less noise and doesnt shake when I press the button?

Aires 35-V, Minolta Super A, or some other interchangeable lens leaf-shutter rangefinder? Yeah, the lens selection is rather narrow, but they are quiet!

There's really no way to further reduce the moving mass of the "Leica type" shutter any lower. Yeah, models with a lower X sync speed will have slower curtains, and maby a tiny bit less shake.

All of my Canon rangefinders (III-A, L-1, 7 and 7sZ) are noticeable louder (different pitch too) than my Leica MP and M3.

John's right. If you want a truly quiet rangefinder, go with a leaf shutter model like the Canonet G-III.
